Alteration questions

My first fitting is next weekend, but I tried on my dress last week because I couldn't wait! It was snug around my ribs due to the extra ribbing material; is this something that they can remove? Other than that, the dress fits.

I'm also paranoid about having my measurements taken as they weren't when I got my dress, not sure why.
