Alterations....

I just went for my first fitting and was shocked at the price ...they charged me almost $500?? Does that sound right? Or am I being cheap? Lol

The total cost of my alterations with the bustle was 375.....they had to basically reconstruct my gown....take off all the detail work...and I had a ton of it...and move everything up because the dress was too long. Plus....the bust area was a little big...so they had to fix that area as well...which had a ton of detail on it.

If 500 includes your bustle as well....and you had a ton of work done to your gown....500 is not too bad. If its a good seamstress ...and you are thrilled with the results....in my opinion...it's money well spent!!

They told me when I bought the dress that alterations would be capped at 300! It's all lies! Lol sucks that they take advantage of the bride like that

Alterations are very expensive. It really depends where you get your dress and how much work they need to do. Bustle is sometimes extra too!! It sucks LOL

Does anyone recommend davids bridal for alterations? I got my dress there, but I don't know if I should go to them for alterations and bustle or go to someone else?

Alterations....

My dress hasn't come in yet (I think around March) but I was told the hem is $75, bustle $95 and anything done to the bodice is no charge. I know that I want to add covered buttons to the back so I know that's be a charge as well but I feel like since my alterations will be pretty inexpensive and I got the dress for a great price, I can go for it.

Mine range from 250-450, that is what it says on my receipt when I purchased my dress.

My receipt at Bridal Reflections said alterations cap at $400...but I don't think that includes the bustle...

What kind of alterations were done on your gown?

My alterations totaled $600! Ridiculous. Have to have them change the back to a corsette style which is an extra $225 for that alteration, regular alterations are $225, bustle is $150. My dress was $970 and the veil was $225. Its insane how much stuff costs especially for that one day. I do love my dress but can't believe I spent about $1900 total for everything. My shoes were $80 and strapless bra was $68.

David's is ridiculously expensive. I'm having my whole train removed and hemmed, my corset (undergarment) sewn into the bodice, and free pressing for $200.00. Tailoring by Rosie.

ETA bridesmaid dress needed a little taken in on the bodice... $25.00

I would definitely advise AGAINST using them for alterations. They just about ruined my SIL's wedding gown. She got her dress there, and was happy with them, but they totally screwed up the alterations (i.e. the hem was totally uneven to the point where it was about at her ankles in the front). My mother had to take it to a private seamstress just about a week before the wedding and, miraculously, she was able to fix it. My SIL was a basket case right up until the last minute. SO not worth it, in my opinion.
