Hello everyone!!, I am a little confused about alteration and bustle prices. I talked with a woman from Fantasia Bridals and she told me that there was an alteration cap and then there was a separate bustle price. She also told me that the price was probably going to go up because I will most likely need the dress hemmed as well. The estimated bustle price alone was about $1200! I do not know if I am willing to spend that on just the bustle alone because the dress only cost me $600 and if I add the bustle and the hem and the alteration then I am not totally sure that it is worth it to get this work done at Fantasia Bridals. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Is it worth the money? The seamstress is supposed to be really really good.

Okay, I have to admit, that when they told me 275 alt. cap, I did think that included the bustle, but I was wrong....so the alt. cost me $175, and the bustle was $150. But your quote is ridiculously high! and I would have questioned it. too.

if there is a cap on alterations then it makes absolutely no sense for it to be $1200. Most bridal stores are about $300 alteration cap. I bought mine at kleinfelds and there alteration cap is a bit higher than most of the others i saw, it was $575.

I don't think there is a cap if you didn't buy from that store. They only apply the capped policy to their own dresses.

oh yeah there is no cap if you didnt buy it at the store. Sorry i thought she said she bought it at the store since the lady talked to her about a cap. Yeah in times like this you realize how good it is to have a cap when you get alterations done at the store you bought the dress from, otherwise they charge ALOT for bridal alterations

i am sorry the hem is included with the cap that was my experience the bustle is separate and depends on how many points you have/ties/buttons. My bustle was i think $150, alterations was at my cap of $250 because i had lost weight.

honestly - ANY where you go you will be charged extra for the bustle. It's excluded from the cap cost. I did my dress through fantasia but it was no where NEAR that much.....how long is your train & what kind of bustle are you getting?? i mean - i would find out the name of bustle your getting & how many points it involves...first see if there's any other option for u(different type of bustle etc., if not then call around & get some quotes before they start their work... u can also go the old fashion route & just get the loop to go around ur wrist...but honestly i know brides who've done this & they say it gets REALLY heavy..
I will say - Fantasia's seamstresses are RENOUND...absolutely amazing...but i didn't pay anywhere near that..infact fantasia had some of the best prices that i found ???
ANYWAYS, so yea - what type of bustle are u getting & how many points??? maybe we can help u more once u have that info??
ps: ur hem is extra???? hem should be part of ur atleration cap unless it's something special that they have to do??

I am def going to try other places. This price seems way too high. I could always make the appointment with the seamstress...i spoke with a sales rep, not the seamstress so maybe the price might be lower...i hope haha but i will def get more opinions. I just wanted to know if I was being unreasonable for thinking that this price was too high. Any one have any suggestions?
i would DEFINETLY speak with Maria directly...go there in person & speak honestly from ur heart...don't argue - just be very nice & tell her that if she can't negotiate that you'll go elsewhere..i'm SURE that she'd rather have some work than none at all...and who knows - maybe the sales rep is wrong??? aside from my wedding, i've also been a bm in multiple weddings and used them & i've always had a good experience.. maybe the price is higher also because you didn't get the dress from the store??
definetly go speak to her..she's a great person..see what she says..they're pretty good at price matching too...so i'm SURE if u get a quote from somewhere else for a lot less that they'll meet the standard.
