I brought into my dress to PM Boutique in Oceanside the other day. This was not the first seamstress I had seen for an opinion, but they seemed to know what they were doing and I had enough of shopping around--so I left my dress and paid in full.
They said the dress would not be ready until August--which had me concerned. But they assured me that most brides do not pick up their dress until the few days before their wedding to ensure the best fit and to not ruin the steaming. Is this true?
I have a receipt--but on the receipt it says nothing about what is being done or when the dress should be ready by. This was all discussed verbally. But my mother thinks I need to go back there and have them write me out a contract specifically saying what needs to be done and the exact date it will be ready by.
Is she overreacting? Or is this normal? Should they have done this for me at the time?

One thing I learned is to listen to your mother. I think she is right Get EVERYTHING in writing.

My sister and I had all of our alterations done at PM for her wedding. She never got everything in writing, just the receipt, but everything turned out absolutely perfectly! The seamstresses there are absolutely fantastic! I would trust them, just based on our previous experience

Honestly, you can't really get alterations in writing (unless you are making changes to the actual design). What I needed done to my dress changed from fitting to fitting as my body changed and I lost weight. And they are absolutely right that it shouldn't be ready until August. I picked up my dress 3 days before the wedding. I think it's best to have the dress fitted as close to your actual date as possible to ensure the best fit. Good luck!
