I am going to look at a dress tonight that someone bought but never wore. If I decide I like it where can I get alterations done?
& are they going to charge me an arm & a leg?
I figured I should know this answer before I decide to buy the dress.
Thanks

Re: Alterations Question?!?
You should be able to take it to any seamstress, tailors, or anyone else that does alterations (just not in a sotre setting though).

Re: Alterations Question?!?
i suggest going to a seamstress/tailor that specializes in wedding gowns to be safer. imho, it's cheaper to go this way bec it's their own fees VS getting it done at a retail bridal salon.

You can take it to anyone who does alterations, why not take it to the same place she bought it from if it is close by?? HTH

I heard of it being cheaper if you go to a local seamstress you trust. Go to a local dry cleaners, they have the seamstress there too but go somewhere a family member or friend has used and trusts ya know!

I agree with both of these girls posts. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to bring the dress to where she purchased it from(longs not too far) I purchased my dress from Davids Bridal but I'm bringing it to my FSIL's seamstress that works for another company but will meet the seamstress at her house

Re: Alterations Question?!?
i went to a seamstress first at a dry cleaner who used to make wedding dresses (she's old now) and i just wasn't happy with what she was doing. i now have that dress at a wedding salon and they're doing a fantastic job! i'd rather spend the extra $ to make sure that they do it correctly - esp since they specialize in alterating wedding gowns. Re: Alterations Question?!?
Considering it is your wedding dress I would DEF take it to a specialized seamstress. Madam Paulette in the city is $$$$$$$$$$$$ but THE BEST according to most sources.

Re: Alterations Question?!?
where are you located? i can recommend my seamstress who is in Queens (fresh meadows) and she did a great job with my designer gown AND did not charge and arm-and-a-leg for it! she currently works for Amsale...
