Alternative ceremony?

Alternative ceremony?

We are having a Pagan ceremony with some Christian undertones. Our minister is a close friend who studies Kendoble (Brazilian Santeria) so we have quite a mixed group!
We are doing a handfasting, writtng our own vows but also doing some of the traditional vows, and we might jump the broom as well.
Is anyone else having a 'different' wedding too?
We want it to be spiritual, but not too preachy or religious. How are you guys doing things?

Well im not that far in alternative..

But I am Agnostic

We also have a VERY diverse group of guests and bridal party members. I felt it ‘rude’ to impose religion on anyone. The pastor we’re using has been very understanding. There is no reference to Jesus in any part of our ceremony, there is no ‘blessing / binding’ at the end. We’ve taken most reference to ‘God’ out of the ceremony but it’s still here and there. It was basically anywhere I could say ‘Creator’ and still get the same message.

We’re having an Apache Wedding Blessing read during the ceremony and the Pastor’s wife (librarian) is looking into Chinese proverbs or blessings as well.

Good Luck!

I say, have fun with it, it’s bound to be something NO ONE will forget!

Oh that sounds nice!

see..we use 'God' only because there is no word that means the same things. I just hate that some people hear 'God' and think: Big bushy gray haired MAN in the sky.
I don't want to make a political statement or anything either or make show of our faith...I just want to keep it as non-denominationl as possible, while paying respect where we fell neccessary.

BTW: I love the native american blessings! There was an Apache one and Navajo one tha twe might use! Still not sure!!!

for readings; we finally decided, (Ironically) on one from the bible; Corinthians 13 ( love is..) thankfully not religious perse` and a poem from my favorite book; The Last Unicorn

We had a friend of ours ordained online. My FH is a non-practicing Jew and I am agnostic. Our ceremony was about my FH and I and the bond that we have formed. No mention of God, Jesus, Budda, ETC. My family was extremely skeptical about how our ceremony would go. In the end we received rave reviews even from our harshest critics.
