Alternative Hour

Re: Alternative Hour

what if you add an extra hour to your reception and then its more like an after party. the wedding would technically be over at that point and you are just going into OT. of course that could be

but i dont think its a bad idea - and im pretty sure all of your guests know that you and your FH like that kind of music and they might expect to hear some of it.

i forgot to add that our reception is booked for 8:00 - 12:30 with the option to go to 1:00 (which we will most likely do) the last hour of our party will be all dancing - we dont expect everyone to stay but the younger crowd and our parents, bridal party will.

I think it is a different idea. My FH would love it! But I think we are going to still keep it pretty traditional...metal is pretty hard to dance to.

If you have a love for rock/metal music, I say go for it!!!! Cool idea. Who cares what other people think.

Re: Alternative Hour

Totally a great idea , i went to a wedding last year and the DJ played mostly hardcore trance and techno i didn't mind it but a lot of the older people were spending time outside and left a few hours early .... it's good to give guests the heads up

i love it but i wouldnt put it on the invite b/c it doesnt belong there. maybe, MAYBe on a reception card but announcing at reception is the best way.

i.e. cocktail hour starts at 7pm
dinner and dancing reception starts at 8pm
Headbangers hour starts at 11pm

personally i think it may be chaos lol

Excellent idea.

Re: Alternative Hour

Well I found out that we are NOT having our alternative hour. FH said it would not be the best idea (he originally came up with it!) I know that it was controversial, but to be honest I have been having such trouble getting something that I want.

Ex: 'My reception is too far away,' WE HAVE to get a shuttle for people. My mother expected me to be covered head to toe in fabric because I am overweight. I requested for my bp to get a cocktail length dress , not strapless and in sage green. My moh ( my sister) picked out a gown, strapless and and kelly green! Her and her daughter are my only wedding party. I really didn't expect it to be this difficult. She finally conceded to my request, but not after 2-3 months of stress of me not being able to plan anything because I didn't know what color I was having at MY wedding.

I figured by having this separate hour, my f h and I could have have something we wanted and not offend anyone.

He doesn't want to do it now because he knows that my family will freak. But yet instead he wants to have the SAME music played at the reception (NIne Inch Nails, Drowning Pool, Ramnstein, Rob Zombie). No, that's much better let's have it mixed in with the HOKEY POKEY!!!!!! The family won't have anything to say about that. right?

I understand he wants to make sure that I don't get hurt because my family will NEVER let me live it down. But I have to say I am dissappointed.

Sorry had to vent, I'm just sitting here crying and the ice cream is calling to me.

i say do it. if it makes you happy then do it. people are going to leave early at the end of the reception anyway (people always do) these will prob be the same people who wont like heavy metal.

i went to a sweet 16 party and the girl LOVED heavy metal but only hip hop/pop was played at her sweet 16. it was a little strange --- i was like what the hells going on! the party didnt seem like her without the metal.
