Alternative Titles

Ok....so I will tell the whole story when I get a chance...but FH makes me want to pull my hair out sometimes. He does not want to ask his brother to be best man. Fine. Although, Peter was his brothers best man in his wedding. And his brother is the type to get hurt about this. So I asked Pete if he can just have two best men, people do it all the time. He said it defeats the title of 'best' man. So we proceeded to argue the definition of best..anyhoo.

Does anyone know of any alternative titles we could give to him to make him feel more special than all the other grooms....I kind of feel he deserves it...but my FH can be quite the DOUCHEBAG when he wants to be

I don't know of any alternate titles. I'll try and think of something. But Fh has 2 best men maybe telling him other liw girls will have 2 best men may change his mind.
Ok maybe not but it's worth a shot.

FH is tired of hearing the girl from LIW its not working anymore Anyway Nina Fh has 5 brothersand he refuses to name a best man they all come to me asking me but he thinks he will choose a friend the rest will just have to be groomsmen nothing else really to be called.

Re: Alternative Titles

Ha Ha!! Yeah...Pete might be sick of it already.

I know its not my decision to make and I should let it be...

But here's a background...when FH's parents divorced, the two brothers went to two different houses. And they didn't talk for years and years. Peter is the younger brother by the way.

A year before FH's brothers wedding, the brother called and talked to Pete and asked him to be his best man.

Since then they have been talking and doing pretty well. Now Peter is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, but for some reason when it comes to his brother he gets all competitive. I almost feel like he is not picking his brother because he doesn't want to give him the honor. Does that sound right without making him sound like a total jerk.

Well, FH was the best man at his brothers wedding. And FH's brother truly adores him. He even came with me to book
Russo's. The night we booked he said he needed to start working on his speech. So its almost like he's expecting it.

I should probably just let it be, but I dont' want peoples feelings to get hurt and I really think if FH didn't have a flippin ego he may have chosen his brother.

It just makes me sad to know some poor guy is gonna get his feelings hurt, over his little brother...Big fat Italian families man..if its not food its drama

Re: Alternative Titles

I read this on the BHB board but thought I would post my reply here. I definitly can understand. Currently in similar situation with my fiance not choosing his brother as best man and me thinking he should. Though the details are different. I think an alternate title would be a great idea. Though I haven't heard of or can think of any. I'll keep an ear out.

Sidenote, I didn't realize you can have two best mans. How would that work?

Re: Alternative Titles

I completely understand, my FH and his brother aren't extremely close. His brother is extremely selfish and very cocky and neither of us can stand him sometimes, but Fh has decided that he is his brother and feels obligated to ask him even though he thinks when he gets married he won't ask him
It's a hard situation because even though it's your wedding, you really do want everyone involved happy
Oh and to answer your ? I don't know any alternative titles but I don't see any reason why he can't have two best men

Re: Alternative Titles

I totally hear you Nina, when FH has his mind set on something it is set and can be sooooo frustrating to talk him out of it. I would honestly tell him that you feel it would only be right if he picked his brother to be best man and tell him you dont think it is the right thing to do if he doesnt. If he still disagrees let it go and let the two of them deal with it, but I would make sure he knows you are not happy about it. Sometimes that works for me, other times it doesnt, but give it a shot.

Re: Alternative Titles

I'm sorry you are having extra stress about this!! My FH is having 2 best men, but he didn't have much choice, because his brothers are twins so it would be impossible to choose one!

Re: Alternative Titles

Nina - I can understand where your coming from - and I agree with you - I think FH should pick his brother - and have 2 best men. Tell your FH that he went with you to Russos to book the hall - and is excited abt preparing a speech and you feel bad to hurt his feelings ... i hope that works - although I just dont understand the mechanics of men sometimes ...

I know that in the spanish culture the Future bride and groom not only picks a best man and maid of honor - but a godmother and godfather - the godmother and godfather are usually 'role models' for the bride and groom bc they are married already - and are there to help and guide them for any problems ... but .. when the first child is born ... the godparents are the same as the godparents of your wedding ... which is diff than the italian tradition ... bc the italian tradition - the godparents are the best man and maid of honor ... but its something to think abt and maybe for your FH to consider!!!

good luck - and keep us posted with updates!
