I didn't get to see Trista's wedding, but I saw pictures. I like the idea of the sand symbolizing our unity. I would like to use my wedding colors, that way I can keep that instead of a candle. Do u think that the priest would allow that?

Yes, at T & R's wedding they were coughing.
Also do you want to do something at your wedding that kids do at a carnival?

Re: Alternative to unity candle
I was at a wedding 2 years ago and they did the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Bride's parents lit a taper, and Grooms parents lit one. They then gave 'their child's light' to the other person (Bride's parents gave her light to groom, and his parents gave it to her). Then Bride and Groom used the tapers to light the one larger candle. I thought it was a beautiful way to incorporate the parents into the ceremony. What a gorgeous idea, the parents gave the light of their life (their child). The priest also said that the candles represented their souls or something. It was amazing. I don't think there was a dry eye in the place!!
