Am I already behind??

I just got engaged a few weeks ago, and am looking at my first places this weekend. I'm planning an Oct 2010 wedding and thought I had tons of time, but from reading all the posts about vendors being booked, I feel like I'm way behind. How far in advance are you supposed to book flowers, photographers, etc?

I know the place and band are priority, but I guess I didn't realize how far in advance everything else needs to be done!

I think photography should be a top priority as well. Flowers you have some time!

You should still be ok. It's over a year away.

Just keep in mind that us LIW girls tend to get carried away and book things WAY in advance

If you're anything like me, you'll just want to get it all done asap so you have less to worry about later on.

I am booked for the middle of october 2010 and have all of my vendors booked already (but mind you I have been engaged for almost a year and a half now!!)
October 2010 seems to be a really popular month, so all of the popular vendors are going to book up really quick...

don't worry, i started planning last month and my wedding is in january..you have pleanty of time...that said, i would do rh first, then band.

You are definately not behind. I only booked the venue for my wedding. One step at a time. Once you find and book the place you can do everything else.

Its so easy to feel behind (I often do!) because everyone is on wedding planning steriods on here!!!! lol

Once you get the RH everything will fall into place. Dont forget you have 18 months! People get engaged and married within a year all the time.

Dont rush any of your decisions!

Dont be overwhelmed go to the RH, cermony site and band/dj first then i would started with ur dress have all ur vendors book at least 8-6 mths before ur wedding !!

Don't be too too worried. I think that us 2010 brides are on our game and booking everything asap. Don't get urself too concerned.

IMO, this is the order things should be booked

RH
Church
(these two could alternate depending on circumstances)
Band/DJ
Photography
Flowers
Limos

I also know a lot of 10 girls who are getting married later in the year already purchased their dresses. I am personally waiting till sept to start shopping because i know i'm going to change my mind 10 times.
I'm also waiting a few more months to ask my bridal party and will start shopping for their dresses around oct/nov.

I totally agree with us being nuts!!! But I think it's good to lock in 2009 prices and get the vendors you really want.

I did so much in the first two months, and stressed myself out that I wasn't sleeping and my face was breaking out like crazy!!

That's why I have been on a wedding vacation for the past three months

i feel like girls on liw and generally more ahead, you def have tons of times and i know reading some of these posts can get overwhelming

i would def put phot/video though agead of dj

The funny thing is, a few of my coworkers were like, 'Why wait till next fall, that's so far away. Do it this fall!' I'm sending the next person who says that to me right to this site!!

I think you're fine. We booked our RH in March '08. Then we focused on the band and photographer. After that we looked at limos because we wanted a particular car. If you're more flexible, you can wait longer on that. I still haven't booked a florist.

Just go at your own pace. Everything will get done. Just make sure you enjoy the planning and don't drive yourself too crazy.

A few 10 brides have switched to 09 dates because of different circumstances and prices for RH's. Just remember that A LOT of the popular vendors book up really fast.

relax! i know a lot of girls on here book things really quick, but honestly i think you can take your time-im just working on one vendor at a time, when i sign a contract i just move onto the next vendor on my list..my goal is really just to book one a month..but i've been engaged for over 6 months, and all i have is my rh, florist, and photog..

The woman who sits next to me is getting married in July and she got engaged in January. She thinks i am crazy for waiting until Oct 2010. (i got engaged 2-20). i think she is crazy for doing it so quickly. everyone does their own thing.

You still have some time but I'd book the RH and church first, and right after the photography and DJ. Once, you got that you can take a breath and do the limo's and flowers. I'm an October bride and I still have a couple of major vendors left to book, including the DJ, which I'm trying to work on now.
