Am I an awful granddaughter

Am I an awful granddaughter

So, my grandmother told my mom she was going to give me her China. Thing is, I don't like it at all. It's just not my style. I like very simple things in cool colors, and it has pink flowers all over it.

My mom told me just to take it, but I really don't have anywhere to put it, and I just don't want it.

Am I horrible for not accepting it? I love her, and appreciate her generosity, but our styles are just not the same at all.

Thanks!

You're not awful - I hate my grandmother's china also. I'd just take it and leave it ion a box until you can find a place for it. You may never use it, but she wants you to have it. I'd take it to make her happy.

it's an heirloom.

Can you give it to your mom, or a sister, or save it for your daughter?

you may not like it but one day you will want it...pass it on to your daughter/daughter in law... keep it in storage somewhere, but i would take it

My Aunt actually wants it, and my mom told my grandma that, but she's insisting that her only granddaughter keep it.

If I actually had a house, I wouldn't mind keeping it, but Kev and I will be in an apartment for at least 3 or 4 years, and we just don't have anywhere to store it.

My mom refuses to keep much of anything for me... She's counting down the days until me, and my stuff, is officially out of the house

IMO, you should take the china. you may not like it now, but you could change your mind... especially later in life if she is no longer (you know what I mean).

If nothing else, it is a very sentimental gift that you could pass on to your children.

And you Grandmother would be so happy to boot.

You can always have your mom hold on to it until you have room to store it.

I agree you should take the china. Hey you can keep it in my basement if you like. It is empty down there.

Re: Am I an awful granddaughter

i want to add that...my mother got engaged and didnt register for certain items because she was living in an apt so she didnt have the room and then a few years later she had a house and she was missing the items should wanted...I live in a small condo and i do not have the room for all the presents will be getting, but one day we will and i want to have them ...IMO the china wont take up much room, your grandma wants YOU to have it...one day you will have the room one day you will want it for sentimental reasons and one day you may even love it! JMO

That's another thing, there is actually china that i want, but i feel i can't register for it.

Maybe it can live in my mom's attic - since she's the one insisting that i take it

I would take it and have it for a daughter or a daughter in law.

I would definitely take it- it will probably hurt your grandmother's feelings if you don't!! And IMO that is not worth it!

Plus- later in life I think her china will be something youwill treasure- it is not about it being pretty, but about sentimental value- JMO.

I would definetely take it!!! She wants to pass it on to you. If you only use it when she comes over...it will make her happy

I had the same situation only I took the china. FI and I lived together for a year before we got engaged so we didn't have much. She offered it to me and I said yes but that I may want to replace it when we get married. She understood. Maybe you can take it and say you will use it until to get your own. It is nice to have her china but I really don't like it. Tough call.

Take it. Even if you have to store it for a few years, it will be something to treasure in years to come. You never know how you will feel about it when you move into a house and decorate.

I have a friend who registered for something and three years later, she doesn't like.

These are from your grandmother. You'll want them one day.

Re: Am I an awful granddaughter

BTW, you are not awful. You are an engaged young woman who is figuring out your likes and dislikes.

The fact that you think you are an awful granddaughter means you really care if you hurt your grandmother's feelings.
