am i behind?

Let me preface by saying a very good friend of mine is having her baby a couple of weeks after me. Sometimes I think she comes on here...I hope not because I stupidly think that nobody peeks at my posts from my private life...if she IS here - HI. I love you and please go back to surfing the net for baby linens!

At any rate, she has been buying stuff for the baby - total basics, like Carters undershirts, spit up rags, onesies, etc. I don't know why...but I have not bought ONE thing for baby. BAD MOMMY!! It's weird, I know what it is...and yet I just feel lke all the little items are so complicated. I don't even know where to buy undershirts. Or when they wear them even? She said it makes her feel better to have all that stuff squared away. She is very organized by nature...I just feel behind I guess.

I never bought anything really until after the shower - you will get sooo much stuff and then you'll know what you need/want that you didn't get. A few weeks before he was due I went and picked out a coming home outfit and stocked up on things I didn't get at the shower. Believe me, it's AFTER the baby comes that you'll have a hard time NOT shopping!!

Jenny- all we have purchased is my glider/ottoman (the fabric I wanted is special order and it is taking 12 weeks to come in so you might want to look at those sooner rather than later), the nursery furniture (parents brought crib and changing table, we got the amiore) and 4 outfits (2 of which are Scott sports outfits). Oh, I do have some diapers , dreft and a case of wipes. But I am waiting until after my shower to other stuff. I may get another case of wipes before then, but not much.

Also, since I don't know the gender I am not buying any real clothes. I am going to send my mom out shopping when I come home for boy or girl outfits.

All we bought was our nursery furniture because it took 12 - 15 weeks for delivery (and we were happily surprised by our generous family members who offered to share the cost of the entire set as a gift to the baby... what a home run! ), and the bedding set because I wanted it early to use to match paint and carpeting to.

We bought not one other single thing, and after my shower last Saturday don't need to buy anything else except clothes. Once the baby is born, my mom will pick up a few gender specific things, and then I will go on a shopping spree!!!

You will get tons of gifts for your shower, so don't worry. I got enough onesies, gowns, bibs, stretchies, towels and wipes to last quadruplets 5 years, and my MIL is buy our diapers for the first year.

I suggest you wait and see what you need AFTER the outpouring of love from your friends and family. I'm very glad I did!

I am no expert but my GF who is a mother 2x over said no you are not. Wait until the shower then you can go from there. After that you can start packing your hospital bag and thinking of her coming home outfit.

I hope you realized that youre NOT behind!
Everyone gave you great advice, so wait and dont go buy things that you WILL get at your shower and from friends that come visit the baby.

I am not buying anything for baby#2 till we know the sex and we'll know if we need more stuff.
Im sure Iwill do lots of shopping even if its another boy.
