Am I being too picky,..... I went to see a reception hall last week that was gorgeous, in a beautiful setting, the food was abundant and affordable. It has been newly renovated, new carpeting, paint, etc....It has gotten many good reviews on here by brides as well as others I met that have attended weddings there. The picky part.....there were water stains on the ceiling. Large, yellow stains on the white drop ceiling tiles. I actually laughed out loud when the reception manager who was giving me a tour showed me a bridal album on his desk.... the stains were in the pictures! I mentioned it to him and he said that they order new ceiling tiles regularly and they would be changed....but to see the stains clearly in full view in the bridal album just made me feel uneasy,,,,like they have been there for years. Please help! I have been engaged since June and I still have not found a RH to my liking. I want an outside setting for my ceremony, good food and most of all clean and well maintained.

um not at all!!! I was like that too at a certain place..where was this?
I dont think so, I definitely wouldn't want that showing up in my wedding pictures. But - on the other hand just keep in mind that not every hall is gonna be perfect. Take some time to think about it and weigh the pros and cons...

No you're not being too picky!!! If you noticed them, then your guests will too...ugh. Keep looking, there are so many RHs and you will find one that's right for you!!!! Or if you really are in love with it and the stains are the only thing that are bothering you....have them write in your contract that there will be NO water stains on the ceiling the day of your wedding.

Maybe ask them to put it in the contract that they'll be replaced if you love it so much. Or you can say I really love it here but just can't take the water stains. If you replace them by the next month, we'll book here but otherwise we'll have to go elsewhere. Can't hurt to try it!

I don't think you're being picky....I actually didn't pick a place because the bathroom looked like a high school bathroom!!

We didn't pick a place because the carpeting was way too floral! It would've taken away from the centerpieces and other decor. No one else (my DH or my parents) seemed to notice it but I was very against booking that place because of the carpeting.
So, no you are not being too picky!

Carpeting, or CASINO carpets as I call it are one of my first pet peeves of catering halls. Closely followed by horrendous curtains, bad ceilings/lighting, strangely placed Bridal suites and too dark and woody....

Your not too picky. When you find the rh you like you will know that it is the one.

Re: Am I being too picky?
you arent being too picky - i wouldnt book a place that had a drop ceiling at all - i just have a thing with drop ceilings - i dont like it - it reminds me of a school or an office and i think it can make a really nice place look less expensive (jmo - i dont mean that in a bad way, i just personally dont like those kinds of ceilings)....but some people dont notice ceilings at all for some its too much marble, too much mirror, some people notice carpets and dont like that either everyone has something that irks them but i dont think you are crazy - everyone has their own things they like and dislike - its all a matter of opinion - but if something looks dirty - like a stain - i would be turned off as well....that is NOT too picky!!

Re: Am I being too picky?
not at all. We actually found a nice church that we wanted to use. I mean, it had the beautiful vintage pews, the ceilings were amazing, and the windows were perfect, however there were some stains on the carpet!!!! I was thinking maybe I could cover it with a runner, but most of them wouldn't be coverd by a runner.
I was disappointed, but in the end if I would've heard anyone talk about the stains I would've been mortified. I wound up going to another place and was very happy.
:) I would either make sure they change them before you give them any money, or find another place.
There are other places that I am sure are just as nice, if not nicer :)
Btw: I love the fact that you have pictures of you guys going to see Hatebreed and Type-O. We need more rock n roll girls on here :)

I did this too... I hated (HATED) the carpet so I wouldn't book there. Otherwise, it was my first choice... but that dang carpet! Casino carpet IS the best way to describe it as a previous poster mentioned.

Re: Am I being too picky?
No.. ur not being too picky.
Me on the other hand, am being picky... - one hall i didn't like cuz of the chairs and they didn't offer chair coverings - i dont like that they have 1 bathroom for 2 parties - i didn't like bridal suites being next to one another - i didn't like that the doors behind my head table is where people would be coming and going if they wanted to go outside to smoke - i dont like it if they don't put the head table right across from the dj - i didn't like one cuz the chandelier wasn't in the center of the dancefloor. It made the room look uneven. - the dance floor must be in the center of the room, it looks weird if everyone is sitting on one side of the room. - i don't like if they keep the cocktail hour room open the entire night because people will start to wander.
Now.. THAT is being picky lol.

I don't think you're being too picky at all. If you noticed them your guests will as well! And if they came out in pictures...well, who wants that in their pictures?
