If I wanted to book our honeymoon to sandels or secrets excellence or a place like that am I better off going through a travel agency or the resort directly??

Not really sure. Maybe you should price it out both ways then decide.

Definitely price out both ways.
FH and I booked our HM thru a travel agent only because if something went wrong, I wanted someone to blame!!!

Research both ways... that's what we did. We were simultaneously checking prices online as we had several travel agencies looking into options for us also.

I think I tried to do it on my own and then through the travel agent and I think I saved about $200 going through the travel agent.
But I'm not sure if they were the exact flights we got, but I tried to do as close as possible. I priced it after I got the qoute from the travel agent. I think its just easier than doing it yourself.
Plus you get all of those colorful books to look at

In my experience, the travel agent doesn't always get a better price, but may have access to better items. For example, we got a suite on our cruise that wasn't available online to the public, but the Travel Agent was able to access it - we would have never known.
Plus, he or she does all the leg work for you so you don't have to add one more thing to the list. And in most cases they don't charge you a thing - they get their commissions, perks, etc. from where they book.
So my recommendation is to use a TA, but the others are right - look at both and see what's better.
Happy planning!!

I agree, and I actually got a better rate on my flights... I had a bunch of flights to schedule and it was so much easier using an agent, good luck.

We are going to a travel agent soon to get some ideas and prices, there may be places or things we don't know of that we can get info on... After that we can do our own research and we will probably go with whatever has cheaper prices or a better payment plan!! LOL

We found that a travel agent will give us a better deal. I went with Dawn at Cruise One

We originally booked our HM directly, and then got a better quote from an agent. I liked dealing with the agent, and it also makes them responsible for any problems with the bookings, etc.

We found that with Sandals the prices were the same online as with an agent. We went to one of their 'Carribbean Night' at a local travel agent and it was pretty informative. The travel agent had been to most of these places and had very good advice. He also had a lot suggestions about airfare and transfer, etc.
