The past couple of years I have taught myself to sew, and my favorite thing has been to make 'dressy' dresses for the little girls in my life- my goddaughter and my niece. Since they are both FG in my wedding party (along with two other girls- DON'T ASK WHY!HA) I was thinking of making their Flower Girl dresses. The ones that I have seen in the store for 100 and up are fairly easy to make, and even though I know their parents could afford a dress, the crafty 'me' wants to do it. Am I crazy? I just thought it would make my wedding that more meaningful and personal, and I thought it would be a nice gift for the girls...
I was thinking of putting one together this weekend, and then posting it on the board for you guys to give me your HONEST opinion. I will keep you updated! For now, here is a little picture of my niece in a dress I made her for halloween (we had her pics done in it! :)
Did anyone ever hear of someone doing this before?
That Snow White dress is adorable. You should definitelygo for it. That would be such a nice personal touch.

The snow white dress is so cute! You did a great job. If I could sew dresses I would do it. Go for it! I'm sure they will come out beautiful and it will really give your wedding a person touch!

my mother made all of our dresses and it means more to me than anything $$$$$$$$ could buy.
HOWEVER, it was a huge undertaking and in the end i think my mom took on too much. making the flower girl dresses i think would be perfect! i wish i had the talent...

YOu have some serious talent- that dress is awesome.
It will also be something very special and sentimental.
If it will stress you out don't do it, but if you have the time go for it.

I think that's a wonderful idea. If you are able to make those personal additions to your wedding- go for it.

I think that it would be great if you mad the FG dresses. Like you said, it would mean more. As long as you have enough time (which you do based on your wedding date) and are not going to stress over it I say go for it!!

you should definatly do it....a plus would be...you (and the child's parents) would get exactly what you want and you could even make all the dresses a little different

First off- This is my 100 post!!! yippee! A small feat for many of you, but I have really been trying to catch up some these last couple of days!
Anyway- thank you so much for your nice comments- if I focus (hard when you have ADD) I can finish one dress in two days- three max. I just kind of like to take a break when a part comes up that I don't like doing- like hemming/putting in a zipper.
I am going to put a sample together this weekend and get your opinions- I know I want it basic white/or light ivory with a colored sash... I am thinking I might make the sash similar to what mine looks like ( I think I have a pic on my albumn) and then maybe embroider their initials on the tail (mine has floral embroiderery)
We will see! I think I should try to attack this part now that I have some free time before the holidays!

The dress is ADORABLE! I think its owesome if you'll do it.. just make sure you have enough time - with the planning and all! But if you can, that is amazing!
