Am I Crazy???

Original post by TheFutureMrsM

I went dress shopping again yesterday, and went back to try on a dress i loved the first time, and also my mom like alot too. It is a lot less then i planned on spending on a dress, but i feel like i can tell its not real silk or satin. Its kinda rough material. But i thought i could live with that, cause the fit was amazing.

But then I made sure to check the label, wich i have done on every single dress ive liked so far to make sure its made in USA. and it was made in China a huge deal breaker for me.

I know alot of things are made out of the country, but this is such a huge purchase and my wedding gown, and it absolutely kills me to think that some little 5 year old made my dress for 11 cents an hour.

So when i pointed this out to the salesgirl, she tried to tell me that all dresses are made in china regardless of what the labels say, but then i was thinking, couldnt the designers get in big trouble for lying on their labels????

Does this bother anyone? or am i alone on this?

yea you just inspired me to do research. Apparently BMW, VW & Mercedes all used slave labor from the concentration camps. There are a few articles about VW making reparations to survivors.

interesting...........
lots of 'supporters' people never knew about - one more reason jewish brides dont use 'here comes the bride' (Handel was also a Nazi)

WOW im learning alot from you today, i didnt know Jewish brides dont use that, very interesting. You are a great teacher

why thank you - And also Krups, you know the coffee pots and that stuff, they made weapons for the Nazis - Thanks to them i shop Cuisinart - LOL

I never saw the 20/20 special, but I was going to mention the same thing that the poster wrote. Most of these third world countries rely on these factories to feed their families.
We shouldn't march against them, but instead to improve the conditions that they work in. I know first hand when a factory is closed how it affect the families that worked in them.

It was a great special, I love John stossel and the pieces he does, seriously always such an eye opener. Its funny bc they showed the young college kids who were protesting a tape of the factory workers talking about all of this and what they said about they need to stop and explaining why, and they were so confused and still wouldn't get it...Like uhmmm no its wrong, its true some people have no idea what its like in third world countries and these kids in particular were so naive and were still saying uhmmm no we disagree with them

Nicole... You carry a Louis Vuitton bag(s) right?

Guess where that's made... ding ding ding, China!!!

I wouldn't worry about where it's actually made. If the fit is amazing and you love the dress than it shouldn't matter where it was made.

Louis vuitton bags are not made in china...if you buy them off the street they are...but otherwise its either france or even now they do it in the usa

I thought that was the case, but a friend who worked for louis vuitton(americana)told me that just the final stitching, needs to be done in the country it claimes to be made in.

I will forever boycott LV and his heirs

this is the 1st time I'm hearing of this I was born a Mick & I'll die a Jew, I'm so over LV

YEs i do understand, but alot of couture type designers dont put their things in factories to be made.

Yes there are other designers, and more like tommy hilfiger, polo, those type of brands that do this

but the high end, couture designers will actually make their things in the country of its origin or in the USA

Okay now we are talking about something I know A lot about. Although seems like thread has gone on for a while

Yes sweatshops are in other countries and supposedly help that county. Yes people in that country say it's 'helpful because the conditoins are sooooo bad in their country.' what is not said is that girls are raped, abused, if pregnant they are taken to get abortions and put on the pill. Bathroom breaks are not allowed, they're beat, and can't leave until they reach a certain of clothes made. Mom and pops places close down because they can;t compete against these big companies (hence Wal Mart). It's called gentrification

No matter how you try to sugar coat it, everything is made in a sweat shop, a label is just that, a piece of material sewn to the product.
