i received an AOS from college and now i want to completely change my career from legal to either a Librarian (school or public) or to work with Barnes and Noble (community relations manager).
So I decided that i will go back to school at the end of May to start the summer classes. In order to do this and rather than take YEARS to complete my bachelors I have decided to go to school full time and quit my full time job in the city!
Thank GOD my father is paying for the reception and the rest is left up to my FH and I. I have the money for that aside so I am not worried about that.
Does anyone work or knows someone that works with Barnes and Noble and if they really do offer part time employees health insurance? Thats my major concern since i have serious back issues.
Everyone has told me so far that if im going to do this to do it now this way when i want to start my family i will be established somewhere. So honest opinions....AM I CRAZZYYYYYY????

Don't know much about part-time benefits, but definitely do not think you are crazy. This is the perfect time to do it. I'd like to change careers too, so hopefully after the wedding I can work on it.
Go you!

no your not crazy.......do it now if thats what you want. there is never going to be a better time.
Your very lucky that you have the financial situation to go back to school.
As for health insurance, I have no idea, but I'm sure you can make it work somehow.
good luck

you're not crazy at all! go for it if that's what you really want to do!
as for benefits, i don't know about barnes and noble, but if you're looking for a part time job with benefits i know starbucks offers that though i think they kick in after 6 months.
why don't you just get a pt job w/ barnes and noble since you're debating working for them, and then enroll in your school's health insurance. they're usually pretty good and much cheaper than just paying for insurance on your own.

You can get health insurance through your school, or you can also probably get low cost health insurance through Healthy NY when you go back to school.
I think if you can afford it, go back to school!

Re: Am I crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzy???
u are not crazy i think its a good idea! congrats! all of the above is good suggestions
if all else fails though- if u have been going to same doctor for your back for years, they will continue to see you even without insurance and usually dont charge THAT Much but it depends how often u need to go. like insurance is hundreds of dollars but one visit to the doctor may be 50-90$ but god-forbid anything more serious happens then it wont be good- how lucky are ya?! or just go with the school insurance- or what i have is like just hospital insurance if in case. ugh!
you and hubby can elope before wedding and get his insurance?! and then ur wedding date can be a renewal !! ... that would work right?!
hope that helped. .. ..

I don't think you're crazy, I think it's great that you're going back to school! A lot of schools also offer a discounted health insurance for students, so that could be something to investigate. Where are you going to attend?

Re: Am I crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzy???
I don't think going back to school is crazy. However, I don't think it's a great idea to base your future career, for which you will need to go back to school, on a bookstore continuing to offer good benefits to part-time workers. I work in publishing, for a publishing company, not a bookseller, and the book business is bad. Very bad. Profits are going down and fewer and fewer books are being sold. Ever notice why B&N sells so many non-book items these days? Because they make money. The days of the music and DVD side of B&N are numbered, because in five or more years all that stuff will be downloaded, not bought in stores. Anyway, one of the first things that gets cut when businesses are doing badly is part-timer salaries and benefits.
So--I think going back to school is a great idea. Having a bachelor's degree can only help you in your future career. But keep your eyes open, explore your options. Don't only think about working part-time at B&N. Besides, once you're in college, you'll probably have your eyes opened to all sorts of new possibilities you didn't know existed. You'll take classes and find new interests, you'll meet people, etc. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I was thinking of going to Farmingdale College, it seems to be the most convenient and around my price range.
While im in school i can decide on whether to continue with B&N or just continue for my masters in library science.

A Masters in Library Science is an incredibly difficult degree! You need to be really dedicated! I'm sure you can do it.
Good luck with everything!!!

Re: Am I crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzy???
It seems like you really want to do this and its not crazy at all. It feels really good when you love what you do. I for the most part have supported myself and choose to transfer schools so I could pursue what I wanted. I lost all but 4 credits and it set me back two years. Now I'm about to graduate and I never have regretted my decision. Some may make you feel that you're way behind them in your career but when you finish you'll have the passion and go far fast!!!
