Am I going to MIL hell??

I was out to dinner on Fri. night with my Fi and his family. My FMIL was sitting across from me, with her long time friend, when she asked me what color my girls dresses are gonna be...so I told her red (like I've told her a million times) so she turns around and makes a nasty face and says...'I don't think that's a good color for July'. Her friend decided to chim in and go 'no, no...that's not a nice summer color' So my dear FSIL told them to be quit and mind there business...it's my wedding and my decision. (She's GREAT)!
So we went into our usual routine...I told the 2 of them that red is an anytime color and hello??? RUBY is the birthstone color of July!!
They continued telling me how terrible the color is and blah, blah, blah until I exploded!

I started screaming 'Well it's MY wedding and I am the one paying for it so I'll do whatever I feel like doing'! FI just laughed and told me that he's so happy I told them off.

I feel bad becuase my FMIL is really good to me...but she is making me crazy with MY wedding plans!

My mother had that issue with me picking red in August. Honestly, I think they think red as ****ty not wedding-like. Don't listen. Do whatever you want.

I got aggravated just reading your post...Good for you! Don't feel bad. You were just defending yourself.

I've gotten a lot of unwanted advice/opinions from so many people. I wish I had told them off.

No, I don't think you will go to MIL Hell!

They were warned and you tried to be polite so they had it coming:D I am sure your FSIL will make her realize she was pushing too hard.

good for you! you were definately right ....my fiance actually told me his parents wont complain about anything because they arent the ones paying for the wedding, and they havent

It's funny cause I've heard HORROR stories about this type of stuff...but I have NO problem opening up my mouth...That's why we decided to pay for the entire wedding ourselves.

Red = color of Love.....um, when did this become inappropriate for a wedding?

The only downside to have in a BP in red, is that if you have a subtle white dress, it tends to get lost in the pictures w/BP.

Traditionally, it is inappropriate for a guest to wear red, but it's your BP.... do what you like.

BTW... if FMIL is intentionally putting you on the spot like that, you have every right to retailate a bit.

HearzBellz, I never heard about red being inappropriate to wear to a wedding. I'm trying hard to remember if I ever wore red.
May I ask, is that a common tradition or a ethnic or religious custom?

Good for you!!!! I wish I could yell at my FMIL.

And I think red dresses would be lovely in the summer, especially for outdoor pictures!!

good for you...DH's aunt told me that pink is such a nice color for BM dresses (I am such not a pink person) after she asked me in front of her daughter if she could be a jr BM!!!

grin and bear it...let them make suggestions...and comments and then just do what you want to do...

ETS: you can always ask her what her colors were...and then make a face...

Don't feel bad. If anyone should feel bad, your fmil should feel bad. I am partial to red; my dresses are a shade of red..(wine). As for a Color for July, you are absolutely right....Ruby is the birthstone. YOu are going to get a lot of compliments on the color. Don't Worry! Feel Better!

My girls are going to be in red too (cranberry actually) for my November wedding & I really think that anything goes today. If you like a color, it shouldn't matter what month it is.

I have also heard that red is inappropriate to wear to weddings too but I've actually worn red before. I think that was probably something people followed years ago. You also would never wear black before & now everyone wears it to weddings these days.
