is it rude to have a guest who you barely know(my mom's cousin) bring her 17 year old daughter since her husband can't come? I was really hoping they weren't coming at all since I have only 6 no responses so I was not happy to begin with but I just thought this was rude to assume she could invite who she wanted. I have never even met this kid. Her mom(of the cousin) is going alone(her husband is deceased) so I don't know why she just didn't go with her WITHOUT her daughter. I just want to know if I am being a brat- my parents seem to think so but I am paying for a majority of this wedding!

that is odd. won't the cousin think that her daughter will be bored since she won't really know anyone

It is a little rude. My mom did that to me once. My neighbors brother got married and my dad didn't want to go so she dragged me along. Now I feel bad for that bride!

i hate when people do that. Just because you get a guest, doesn't mean you can bring a random person.... I don't think you're rude. I agree.. That's not right!! People tried to do that to me too!!

Re: Am I just being cranky or
This is a hard one....it's family and the cousin is older so maybe the mom thought it was okay? If the invite said for her and her husband then she should not have just assumed she could bring the daugher. But, what I'm noticing is that people don't really know (or they don't care) about invites being only for those named on the inner envelope.
Well, at least you will meet a new FAMILY member at your wedding. I'm meeting my mom's co-worker daugher's boyfriend!

that is SO rude and presumptuous!
I cannot believe the audacity of some people! Bringing substitute guests or babies to a non kid wedding!

I'm in the same boat. I invited someone with 'and guest' and they're bringing their 17 year old son- meanwhile, I have been going through WW3 with close family members about bringing their children, and this one will be showing up with her son. I'm sorry I invited her with a guest.

Re: Am I just being cranky or
thank you for understanding me you lovely ladies- my FH thinks I am over-reacting, my parents called me a brat but I am sorry, I just think this is rude. I don't even know this cousin but my mom started crying that she has no family- not true all her other cousins, brother, mom, etc are coming. So I will let it go but I wanted confirmation that I wasn't crazy. I just think this is nuts!
I am not even that nice a person! Why do so many people feel compelled to see me get married!

Re: Am I just being cranky or
I honestly wouldn't care. if you invited two people you should expect two people. doesn't matter if it's the husband or the daughter who needs to tag along so her mother isn't alone.
everyone's situation is different, maybe she really wants to come but doesn't know anyone besides your mom.
I don't think it's that big of a deal really. JMO

Re: Am I just being cranky or
I know of alot of instances where people do this .... Most assume that a wedding invite is for 2, so if their significant other can't make it, they bring someone else. If it were me, I would be happy she's bringing her daughter and not some random friend.

Yes, it's rude. It's a wedding and you invited her and her husband.
To all of our collected guests, a wedding is NOT a barbecue... I'll say it again, you cannot just bring your accountant's hairdresser's landscaper to our weddings The invite is for specific people, if they can't attend then, oh, well. Sorry Christine

Re: Am I just being cranky or
We have a problem with my DH's office manager. She doesn't have a S/O so we invited her as Ms. and guest. The problem is we think her and guest might be her 4 year old daughter rather than her boyfriend of the moment! Is is rude to ask who she is bringing? Do we tell her it would be improper for her to bring her 4 year old. Or is and guest her choice?
