Am I making a huge mistake????

Am I making a huge mistake????

By not having a videographer? Everyone keeps telling me I am...I've always been annoyed by them at weddings, they're wheeling around the camera and shining the light in your face...so I've never wanted one...

But now i'm scared that photos aren't enough? What do i do?!

I never wanted one either... I still kind of don't see the point. I know me, Ill watch the video maybe once... but my FMIL insisted and she is paying for it so I didn't argue.

I am getting it so that I have the opportunity to watch us say our vows again...also I want people like grandparents on film having a good time since they won't be around forever. Even if I only watch it once I feel its good money spent.

Plus I've heard from many people that their kids love watching their mommy and daddy 'on tv'...I'm excited to be able to have our future children share in our special day.

I'm not getting one. It was not in my budget and I didn't want to 'make it fit' in my budget. What I am going to do is my best friend offered to video the ceremony, first dance, MOH speech, dances with father/mother for me. She has a nice video camera and a tri-pod that she is going to bring with her. To me that is enough. Maybe see if someone would be willing to do that for you.

I would do $1000 or 1500 in the grand scheme of your wedding is nothing and everyone tells me that the day flys by and I want to see everything later. And for our kids too.

Re: Am I making a huge mistake????

I didn't notice our videographer at all, and watching the raw footage was worth the cost. My father made this great speech about my marriage to the videographer while I was getting my hair finished, and although he was standing like 5 feet from me I seriously never heard it, I was too focused on getting ready, so I am so happy it is on video.

It was also great to watch our ceremony again!

Lastly, we had some very elderly relatives there. We are so happy to have them on video talking, laughing, eating, trying to dance... our kids won't get to know them, but at least we can show them a video.

im doing one only cuz people say the day goes by soo fast you dont even have time to remeber! that way with a video, you can go back and remember things that flew by!

I never wanted one either. I too hate the light in my face, annoying kind of videographer. I told my photographer that I didn't want it and he PROMISED me that I'd never even notice it.

My friends all were married years ago. Their children LOVE LOVE LOVE to watch the video of mommy and daddy getting married. Also, it's nice to see some of your older relatives in action.

I just saw my cousin's wedding video last weekend. There's nothing like seeing our 87 yr old grandmother dancing the night away and being serenaded by the band. And it'll be even more special to see her like that when she isn't around anymore... For that alone, it's well worth the $$ to me...

i always thought the same thing, but a just married friend had said that she really wished she had booked a videographer because she felt like she missed so much.

my patken videographer was VERY unintrusive, i didn't even notice he was there more of the time.

we just got the most basic unedited video add on to our photos, nothing fancy since my man and i knew it was just going to be for us mostly.

Yes, I think you are. I hadn't planned on one but added it a few months into planning. I can't wait to show my future children and when my parents are gone I will have them dancing at my wedding on video.

If you aren't sentimental like this then you may not want it and that's ok too!

FH and I didnt want one either. Then EVERYONE said it was a mistake and that we were going to regret it.

One day we ended up watching one of our friends video, and our minds changed immediatley. We thought even if we dont watch it more than once or twice in our lives, we will still have it and our kids will be able to see it...and so on.

DEFINITELY GET ONE! I'm not a huge fan of them either, but you'll regret it for years to come by not having one. I just went to a bbq at a friends house last weekend and they showed their wedding video from 7 years ago. I became friends with them through my older brother (b/c they're his friends) and since neither of us were dating anyone at the time we just went together w/all of his friends in a group. It was so cool though for my fiance and my brother's girlfriend of 5 years to get to see him and I so many years ago. We were all over the video dancing w/our friends . It was a real trip for them (and us). Definitely get it. You won't be sorry!

My only regret is that I didn't get a BETTER videographer! I almost didn't get any video at all, and we ended up doing the most basic one we could. I've already watched it like 8 times. You get to see your day over and over again, and from a totally different angle. I would just tell you Kittygags, to get a simple video. You won't regret it!

Hey Kitty.

I was in the EXACT same boat as you. We decided we didnt really want a videographer. We didnt really want or need to pay for one and didnt really think we wanted video.

Then we started thinking. DID we need video? Would we regret it?

So we bit the bullet and just hired a videographer this week. If you FM me I would be happy to send you his info. We spoke to him, at length about his equipment, how he does the video, what kind of lights, how long is he there...all sorts of things. But we went with him because we liked his personality and how warm he was on the phone.

So we were in the same boat as you. Then we decided to do it.

Good luck in your decision.
