By not having a videographer? Everyone keeps telling me I am...I've always been annoyed by them at weddings, they're wheeling around the camera and shining the light in your face...so I've never wanted one...
But now i'm scared that photos aren't enough? What do i do?!

I'm not having one. I know it would be nice to have a video to look back on but I always turn the other way from them at other weddings. They just make me uncomfortable...definitely not the feeling I want to have on my wedding day.

I did not want one at first then I changed my mind (FH was mad because its expensive). I just wanted to have it because I did not want to miss anything. My friends convinced me to get it.

I didnt have one, and I dont regret it at all. You are right, they are annoying most of the time. Before my wedding I asked my guests (some close friends and family) what they thought I should do, and they all said the same thing. Dont stress to have one, and if its not something you dont have your heart set on...then why get one? HTH

My only regret is that I didn't get a BETTER videographer! I almost didn't get any video at all, and we ended up doing the most basic one we could. I've already watched it like 8 times. You get to see your day over and over again, and from a totally different angle. I would just tell you Kittygags, to get a simple video. You won't regret it!
I agree, even just someone to capture it , not even make it all fancy and editted

I think you should get one. If you tell them to stay in the background they will. Also the price depends on how much editing you want and if you want pictures or graphics etc. You could definately get just a 'raw' video for under $1000.

I just saw my cousin's wedding video last weekend. There's nothing like seeing our 87 yr old grandmother dancing the night away and being serenaded by the band. And it'll be even more special to see her like that when she isn't around anymore... For that alone, it's well worth the $$ to me...
WOW ... you put a tear in my eye.. but ITA with you! :)

we weren't going to get one but opted to do it. And it wasn't annoying as you might think. I didn't want the camera in everyones face either, but if anything, let them know what you want. I'm glad I did it.

It was one of my best decisions so far. I just got my trailer last night and I've already watched it a million times. I teared up when i thought about my children watching it.

Re: Am I making a huge mistake????
I am not only cuz I don;t have the money (no one is helping us financially) and I am more about pics. I also hate myself on video. I will have my friends film the ceremony though so I have that . All of my friends say don't waste money, they never watch it. That's just my side of story... My photographer is making a little video with pics though so that will be nice to have...

Re: Am I making a huge mistake????
DH and I never wanted video so we didn't get it. Everyone kept telling us that we should but we couldn't be convinced. Besides, we were paying for everything so we felt that we really didn't want to spend the money on something that we'd watch once and never again.
So, having said all that...now I say, if you can afford it, get it! One of our relatives took a good deal of video the day of and sent us a copy. We were really enjoying it but wished we could have heard ourselved giving our vows and any other things that were going on. So, yes we do regret not getting it, though it was not going to be feasible for us anyway.

Re: Am I making a huge mistake????
we had a videographer and it was the BEST idea
i got all my pro pics back and they are AMAZING, but i cannot wait to get my video bc i cant wait to see how the entire day was and i cant wait to relive the day again!

We are having a videographer and opted for the basic video- we werent big on having a videographer, but then heard how when it's your wedding- sometimes you dont see everything and dont remember things that happened throughout the night... I want to be able to look back and watch and laugh on the couch with FH and family/friends looking back at our special day.
I'd rather have the video, then wish later on that I would have splurged on a video and not have those memories. I say go for it... those are moments that you'll never get back and you can relive your wedding day through the video

I really hope you've decided to get a photographer. There is an opportunity to capture one of the most important and sentimental days of your life! Don't miss it!

Re: Am I making a huge mistake????
I just watched my wedding video again 2 days ago and I'll be married a year next weekend.
I would def get it. Its so nice to have and it was so nice to see it after the wedding. Now having 1,000 pictures - thats another story.

Re: Am I making a huge mistake????
I'm just having a friend at the wedding video tape our ceremony, first dance. I think pictures will be fine if you have a great photographer, and I'm sure my video would just sit around and collect dust - plus I've seen people pay a pretty penny for some pretty cheesy wedding videos...I'd prefer not to throw my money away.

Re: Am I making a huge mistake????
i am, and i think you may regret it... video captures so much more then photographs do... yes youll prob look at the pictures more then watch the video but theres just certain things that you can only get from video, i know this is sooo incredibly cheesy but i think its true that a pic is worth 1000 words, a video is worth 1000 pics, i know im a cornball lol
you dont have to go nuts, im splurging on pics but def not on video

Re: Am I making a huge mistake????
Mine was great. I barely realized they were there during the reception yet everything is captured, the little bit I did know he was there, he was so much fun we didn't mind having him around anyhow. We were showing off for him on the dance floor. The wedding itself they are no more in the way then the photographer. Actually he came with us on the boat from my house to Lands End and we were having so much fun with him. We really let loose.
I am really glad I did it.
Try Wild Rose, they are fanstastic. We had Dave and I loved him.

ITA! i wish mine was better, but the thing i always remind myself, is i can look back and watch DH and i saying our vows and see all the people that were a huge part of the day that might not have gotten into pictures. i would 100% get it. my friend and his wife didn't have one and she regrets it. DH took some video on my camera and she is DYING to see it!
