Am I one of the 'oldest' members on this site?!

Original post by Teri

I just noticed that next month will be my 2 year anniversary posting on this site! Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Maybe I should say goodbye to wedding planning and move on with my life?! LOL

I wonder how we can find out who's been here the longest.....I joined 3/01 - where are all of my other 2001 friends?!

Re: Me Too!

I got married in May 2001, so I have been here since 2000.

Re: Me Too!

I got engaged in December 2000, but I know I used to visit this site before that (I was always a dreamer, LOL)!!

I didn't start posting until after I got engaged, so I'm not even sure when my official start date on this site was?

I do know that while at work, I can't really post. So that's why I haven't hit 'addicted' status, but I would say I am. I'm nearing my 1 year anniversary already (May 11th).

Hubby just doesn't get it

I have been around for awhile too! Looks like I joined in 6/01 per my profile but I did get engaged in 3/01. Married in 10/02. I lurked for awhile before I started to become comfortable and eventually addicted. I wonder how long the addiction lasts.

Count me among the old-timers too (and Wendy - I'm up there with you ). I was engaged in April of '00 and joined shortly afterwards. We were married in April of '01.

I rarely ever go to the BHB board anymore - just every once in a while to do a search on my reception site, florist or photographer. One of the more frustrating things for me when planning was not having reviews on my vendors, so I try to help out in those area for those just planning, but I don't get involved in all the little details. Besides, that board moves too fast these days!

I've mostly stayed because of the help I've received with info relating to my move from MA to NY, house buying and related topics, and to keep up with the cute babies being born! I do find that I'm getting much more discriminating about the topics I read and those I answer. Some days the Newlyweds boards seems to be an extension of the planning board, and NWR gets to be too much chatter for my interests. I thought I saw that LIW was planning a new re-vamp of the board - hoping for more home-owner, LI Living type topics.

Teri, if you like the site I wouldn't say good-bye. I really enjoy getting tips from both brides-to-be and newlyweds

Same here!!!! We got engaged in June of 2000 and married in Sept. 2001....I started coming to this site around the summer of 2000. I just can't seem to get my self to stop coming to the site! My hubby thinks I'm nuts, he tells me 'your not a bride anymore...get over it!!!' Oh well...I like to think it's seperation anxiety!!!

I guess I'm the oldest. I've been on the board since at least 99.

I don't post too often because I usually log on from work.

I guess I should get another hobby!!!!!

I've been here for awhile myself, got engaged in March of 2000. Back then we had the top 10 posters and only a brides board

I remember that Michele. There wasn't any rush to accumulate posts. No pictures either.

I remember the top ten posters! Kel was one of the highest - she still comes by every so often.

Terri - I remember you! I haven't seen you around in a WHILE!

Chlemger - you're an 'oldie' too - didn't a bunch of people mistake you for a vendor in the beginning?! Or am I confusing you with someone else?!

The first week I was here, I asked people about Mark Kauffman and a few people accused me of being a vendor!! I hadnt even met him yet so I definitely WAS not plugging him!

Teri -

Yep, an oldie here!! LOL But I was never mistaken for a vendor - I guess your thinking of someone else.

The only drama I remember causing, if you can call it that, was a BTB posted about her wedding hall and asked for comments about it. Everyone bashed it big time, which is fine because I believe everyone is free to voice their opinion. But when I posted saying to be careful of what you post because this bride was now upset because that was her hall, people let me have it!!

It still didn't turn me away!

EDit to say I remember the top ten list of posters. I also remembering being able to go on and see a list of all people registered on the site. Is that still available?

I have been around a while too even though I hardly ever post. I got engaged Dec. '99 and came on here shortly after. I have gone through so many phases with this board - from extreme addiction to staying away for a couple of weeks, but I always come back. My husband still laughs when he sees me on here.

I really think I might be on here the longest. Anna, I think I might have to steal the title of biggest 'L' from you. I got engaged in 9/99 and found this board in 10/99.
I could start a 'Do you remember when thread?' with all I have seen change. Do you remember when:
1. We did not even have a logon to say 'member since' at that time.
2. There was only 1 board and it was to help the brides.
3. Once in a while Mark Kaufman chimed in to help us out, but he was the only vendor.
4. The only drama that happened was someone was suspected of being a vendor posting as a bride. A new screename would mysteriously pop up saying how amazing their hair stylist was.
5. There was a top 10 board and Kate was always the top post with 2x as many posts as the person behind her.
6. There was no count of how many posts you had.
7. When the drama got out of hand we had to register with a screename so they could trace our posts to an IP address. We were able to pick our first name no matter how common it was.

Wow. I wonder how many hours I have spent lurking here over the past 3 years? GTG feed the little one. I look forward to hearing any other 'remember when's' from you other oldies.

Remember when
*The posts went in this diagonal direction, and each reply went under the main post and you just saw the title of the initial post 17 times (unless the person replying changed the title) so you had to scroll down the entire page to find a reply to a thread...
AND
*Remember how the NEW messages were bolded in red, and you were told what NEW messages were posted since you last logged on. !!!

Re: Am I one of the 'oldest' members on this site?!

LOL!! They had a section called '10 Most prolific posters'...eek! I remember I was #8 on the list with 120 posts or something like that...now people have almost 9000 posts!

I remember Mark Kaufmann would chime in and then ppl started getting all mad at him over???I don't even know why but they did. Hence as someone mentioned the birth of the Vendor board.

I remember Kate too.

I remember the new format was hard to adjust to the first few times...it was 1 month before my wedding and I was not in the mood for a change to my lifelife to other brides.

Ah the days, before pictures and emoticons...are we like an older generation telling tales of the olden days? LOL

edited to add: I remember those threads Anna. Someone could reply in the subject line and an NM would be at the end of the message. You didnt even have to open the post. The red was very cool, so you could see where you left off quickly. And you could sort them 50 different ways

I remember those as well. Ahhhh the good old days. Of course you then had to scroll back down the whole thread after reading one post to get back to where you left off.

And there were far fewer brides than there are today. Of course that was before the Newlywed board, which if I remember correctly was suggested by some of the newlywed brides as a way to get away from the drama on the brides board. How funny this all is. I had forgotten so many of the changes.

I remember the 'diagonal responses'! I thoughtt they were so great~ easy to see what you had read because they changed color! In retrospect I'm thinking WHAT A PAIN!
You could also see a list of every member and click on their name to see their profile.

Ahhh - such memories!

I also remember Mark chiming in all the time on the Brides board - I guess he did help to realize the need of the vendor's section.

I remember the format of the posts - I prefer this format of new posts MUCH better

I remember being able to look up each person's screen name (like someone else mentioned) and I miss that on this board.

Hmmmm - what else? There must be more!

Re: Me Too!

I started in Dec 99 ( booked the Milleridge the week before Christmas) and got engaged Feb 00---
back then there was maybe 10 people posting all the time--It is amazing to see how much things have changed and how much I have learned from all of you!!
Laura
Edited to say--MichelleW & Elizabeth-- I used to check the Top 10--and couldnt believe I was near the top--now I am lucky if I can get to a 1000~~~~
Funny how much has changed!!!!
