am i over reacting??? (sorry its long)

am i over reacting??? (sorry its long)

need honest opinions... sorry its prob gonna be a long post.

so this is what happened:

one of my guy friends sent me a wedding present from off my registry in July. he didnt say anything about it until right before my wedding cause i never acknowledged it and he wanted to make sure i received it. of course i had no idea, because it was sent to my moms (cause when i registered for the shower, all gifts were sent to my mom in order to maintain the surprise) so this gift went there as well. we checked the tracking info and was delivered to the back door.
so with the wedding very close and worrying about my gramps, i forgot to ask before the wedding and i just remembered to mention it to my mom yesterday and she was like i have no idea what your talking about, nothing was delivered, anything that was, i gave to you. so im like are you sure, it was delivered in july... she was like no, nothing.... so then i said hmm i guess someone stole it.
so she said well what was it? i said bedding, a mattress pad. she said...(mind you in a nasty tone) oooohhhhh that was for you??? i said yea, who would you think it was for? she said it had her name and said congrats on your bat mitzvah. i said well everything off my registry was delivered to your attention, and he was joking, thats his type of personality. she starts yelling at me, well why would he write that and calling him stupid. this is obviously making me mad that shes calling my friend stupid, but i maintain the same tone and never raised my voice once. yet she starts screaming at me.
my whole point was, you know im registered at BBB, why wouldnt you call me and say this was delivered from this person and ask me if i knew them. she said because it said bat mitzvah on it. i said who would send someone a mattress pad as a bat mitzvah present???
so in any event, she put it on a bed in her summer home (a very old mattress, im not even sure how old it even is, prob older then me). and said she would replace it.... i said ok thats fine, but just so you know it was $100 pad... so she excalated, me staying in the same tone, cause now shes mad about money...
so she again starts screaming at me, telling me that she didnt know who it was for, and she thought that BBB made a mistake in sending it to her. (my thought is that she thought she got something for free, so if she never mentioned it, then she would get away with it) i just dont understand why she wouldnt call me and ask me about it. like hey, something was delivered from BBB from so and so, do you know this person?
she said she checked the shower list and didnt see his name... i said well thats because hes a guy and wasnt invited to the shower. then she said well i had no idea who he was. im like thats because hes my friend, why would you know?? ugh. im so pissed.
so she still kept calling him names even though i repeatedly said stop calling him names. then she calls him a stupid schmuck and i replied with, dont ever call my friend a stupid schmuck again and hung up on her.
now shes telling me that she is going to take it off the bed and give it to me. and DH and i dont want it now, because we think its gross........ i really really dont want it.
if i received this gift and it said congrats on your bat mitzvah, i would laugh and thank him for my bat mitzvah gift. DH knows him well, and knows how he is, and when i told him the story he laughed as well.

am i over reacting not wanting this used mattress pad?? i feel like im not because DH would let me know if i was over reacting or not, and he doesnt want it either. (and i didnt even ask him, or make it seem that i didnt want it. i was in the midst of my story when he said it)

Personally, the mattress pad I got for my shower is the bee's knees... so take it, wash it, and enjoy it!!

Though your mom is being ridiculous!! She immediately got on the defensive because she got caught doing something she KNOWS she shouldn't have.

ITA on both counts! I can't believe she's acting that way over it.

I wouldn't have ever let it escalate so much.

It's a mattress pad. Buy a new one. Not worth the bickering. Use it or get a new one.

Well 1. your mom is being a douchebag. she never should have done ANY of the above.

BUT... she did it and yes, be mad... but let's move on.

she put it on a bed in her 'summer home' so i'm guessing hardly anyone if anyone slept on it?

no big deal.

family's family.

wash it. use it. tell your mom never to do something like that again and to apologize for calling your friend names.

I don't think you're over reacting at all.. that is kinda skeevy... when FH and I house sit at my brothers we sleep on an air mattress.. we don't like the idea of sharing a mattress with anyone.

I think your mother should replace it, it was yours. weather or not it was addressed to you, you told her it was yours and she did something wrong.

I mean, what would she have done if BBB contacted her saying 'we accidentally sent you something and we want it back'? or 'we want the price for it'.. then what would she do? (I know that wouldn't happen.. but what if?)

I think you need to let her calm down a little then bring it up again.

What do you do when you stay in hotels?

i skeeve hotel beds. yes i stay in them, however, i totally skeeve sleeping and hardly move. i never touch the comforter either. i usually pull that all the way down to the bottom of the bed, or fold the sheet over so far that i dotn come in contact with it during the night.

i just think its gross because i know how old the mattress is, and the whole point of a mattress pad is to collect allergens and bugs, which means that they will prob be stored in the fibers of the pad. which even though i would wash it, i would want to start off with a new one. it was a wedding gift to us. any normal person would $uck it up and replace it.

Wait until she calms down and try talking to her again and see if she'll replace it, she should since she's using it. If not you may just have to wash it

ehhhh.. i literally shivered when you ask that.

i dread it.. honestly, i totally 100% hate sleeping in hotel beds. even if they are super comfy and have amazing pillows. i always feel skeevy.
hot shower.. lots of soap... i try and bring my own sheets and pillows, but fh always gets mad.

Your mom is being nutz! I think that she should buy you a new matress pad and she should just keep the one she already used.

I mean seriously??? Why not atleast ask you about it when it arrived?

oh it would have been on w my mom if that was me.

She acted like a jerk and she knew that pad wasn't hers. I dont care if your mom or not, she should make it right and get you a new one.

I don't want a used mattress pad as a wedding gift. Basically, that's what it is now.
