Am I over thinking things?

Am I over thinking things?

Ok so my FH and I are the 5th couple to get married out of his friends. Everyone has done 'surprises' for their guests. They have done the photobooth, live statues, irish dancers ect. It has all been amazing but I feel like I have to keep up with everyone but I dont want to turn my wedding into a circus either. I already feel like I'm copying ideas since everyone has done basically everything already and now I feel like our wedding has to live up to theirs.....I am driving myself crazy.

Don't go crazy with extras. You dont need to compete with anyone.

I wouldn't try to compete with anyone. I would only do something that I want, not do it b/c my friends did it. If you don't want your wedding to be a circus then don't do anything. If there is something you really want, then I say go for it!

Don't stress over it!

Don't feel like yiu need to compete. Everyones wedding is different. Yours will be great without having to add anything over the top. Just enjoy yourself and everyone will see that!

Your wedding should be about you and FH and celebrate the two of you. Don't feel like you have to live up to anything. Your wedding will be special because it's about the two of you.

ya know... its easy to give the good old advice 'do what you want to do... you dont have to compete' but ya know what? i felt the same exact way when i went to this past wedding of a friends and they had the cigar roller... this was my first wedding where ive seen this done and they were the first of our friends to get married .... i got so upset at that point bc thats something i am doing and now i feel like 'well, its been done...so why should i bother' but i grabbed myself a cigar, went outside to smoke, and i thoroughly enjoyed that part of the wedding... so i dont feel bad anymore... im doin it for mine and i know people would love it...

anyways... sorry for the rant... but i think you should do 1 special thing that means something to you guys... doesnt matter if its been done....it doesnt have to be over the top... doesnt have to turn into a circus...

I see what you mean but I think the more extras you do it takes away from you guys! It's really about having fun with your friends and family!

You have to figure out what is important to you. I am not doing all of those extra things because I want to focus on making the day all about the love between Jay and I. I am putting as many little personal touches into the day as a I can to make it feel warm and loving.

Like everyone says, do what is important to you that will make you happy.

your guests aren't going to look at it that way. guests don't notice half the things we worry about. plan your day the way you want it and trust that the people who love you will have a lovely day celebrating your union.

Thanks ladies.....I know the wedding is about Steve and I and I know its only a handful of people that went to all the other weddings and our familys will have fun no matter what. There was just a part of me that wishes I could do the stuff they did I guess. i'm just going to consintrate on the little things that will make the wedding our own

I think most of us would like to add more things or different ideas than other wedding had but sometimes its not in the budget and like you said you dont want it to become a circus. Stick to the things you really want for YOUR wedding regardless if anybody else had it before or not

Your wedding will be unique because it is showcasing YOUR love...

As for the extras...EVERYTHING has been done before at one point or another..if its special for you to have it at your own wedding, then go for it! If not, don't worry about it. When you think about it all the essentials are already there..if you have great food, a great DJ and great guests your wedding will be amazing no matter what else is there, or not there!

Don't stress too much!!

Yes your wedding should be what you want it to be. Not what you think it has to be because of other people. Sometimes simplicity is best! No keeping up with jones' here!

Re: Am I over thinking things?

i can understand ur frustration but watching one of those wedding shows i remember a planner saying to a bride: 'your wedding will be special and unique because its YOUR wedding' you dont need extra things. Sure they are nice but why drive urself crazy over it?
your wedding will be FABULOUS with or without the extras!

Re: Am I over thinking things?

I completely hear where you are comming from! I am dealing with a very simular situation...but now... to help save myself from all the drama, I am keeping all the details I plan on doing on the DL... and not have all the other girls whos getting married next year know. I mean, one for example will be my cousin... she starting coping everything i was thinking of... I didn't really care too much since my day is MY day... but since family will be going to both of ours in ONE year.. I was like, plesae, stop following wht I do. Now, she keeps want\ing to change her colors. I'm doing blue and purple but I told her I was doing Green...now she's doing green..thinks I am too... and I hide ALL my wedding stuff if she ever comes over! HA

FH pressured me into saying that it's MY wedding, and it doesnt matter what someone else is doing. He's great with advise. He just keeps telling me that I should do what I want to do and not worry about what everyone else is doing and wanting to take from me. He says that if they steal my ideas then it just means that i thought of a great idea! LOL

Don't let it bring you down... just simply do what you want for YOUR day!! This is supposed to be a happy time...not a drama time! LOL

Good luck!

Re: Am I over thinking things?

dont let it get to you - we are doing a lot of things that are different but all those things im sure have been done before by someone else - its not like we are the first to ever do it - but the reason we are doing those things is because those things are 'us' and our personality and because we wanted things to be a little different, well because we are different your wedding will be unique - not every wedding is the same - dont stress it

ETS: my best advice is dont try and keep up with the jones's KWIM? just on this site alone i have seen so many beautiful and amazing ideas - and you just cant have it all and just because other people do things doesnt mean that you have to do it too - so do what you want, do what you can and dont worry about what everyone else is doing or did - because on your day its about you and your FH
