So, i booked with a limo company for my shuttles between the hotel and the reception. Only problem is, i had many more people book the hotel then expected. So long story short, i have to get a larger bus.
The company i booked through does not offer these busses, so i have to cancel the bus. I called up the company today, and i assumed i would loose the 200 dollars, but they are now demanding the entire $750.
At the bottom of the contract it clearly states, you will loose your deposit, but then in small writing in a paragraph it says something about having to pay the ENTIRE BILL.
I am really upset, this is insane, or am i the one to blame!
I was almost crying on the phone! WEDDING STRESS!

that's really crap! usually, as you said, you'd just lose the deposit, not the entire amount. sorry you're dealing with that
anyway, if they're going to require you pay the full amount, then maybe you should just stay with them and get a 2nd car through them, rather than losing the $750 and paying another grand on top of that to another company?

that's stinks. Can they work with you and give you an additional bus? It might be cheaper than losing the 750 and getting a bigger bus with another company.

ohh man...sorry to hear this..
usually when its so close to the wedding, contracts have that clause...that if you cancel xxtime before the wedding, not only will you lose your deposit but you have to pay the remaining balance....
do they have another bus they can offer to you??

ITA. if they are demanding that you pay the entire bill, then i would try to work with them and see if it's possible to just rent 2 instead.

Re: Am i right to be upset?
Can you FM me the name of the bus company? Because I ran into a similar problem and cancelled a bus contract and the contract terms were insane.
Unfortunately, since you're so close to your wedding date, almost all companies are going to have this kind of policy. Why don't you just add a different bus? Or another form of transportation of SOME sort? If you're going to pay the whole amount anyway, you should just use the bus even if it means you have two giant buses from different companies. Or do two trips? That's what I'm doing, also to Land's End.

Re: Am i right to be upset?
WOW that's terrible.
OK so let's think here. can you keep the bus and maybe get another shuttle from elsewhere for cheap? some hotels offer a free shuttle with x amt of rooms booked.
and you can get a smaller shuttle for less to just take those over the limit on the first bus. Maybe even the 2 prices combined would be the same if you had 1 large bus??
Or can the bus then do 2 trips?? they have to work with you somehow. Tell them you are on LIW and put them on FULL blast!! Keep it factual and you can work it to your benefit! TRUST ME!! It worked for me.

Yea, i think i will have to. He said something about two busses but i was too upset to continue talking to him.
I am made because 1) There is no mention a a time when you can't cancel 2) At the bottom of the contract it states that the DEPOSIT will not be returned.
I am just sick of sneaky people

In the paragraph about paying the entire bill, what else does it say?

I'd just order a second car and keep what you have so far so you don't lose any money. You can even call Super Shuttle because they offer pretty affordably-priced services around Long Island just to add a second van or something. You can do it for late-comers or something. Or find out how much it would be to have the vehicle you already booked make two round trips.

Yes, but it is so close to your wedding date. Can you get an extra car so you dont lose that amount?

Your wedding seems to be VERY close. This is most likely why they are demanding the 750. Can you have the bus make 2 trips?

I actually don't think this is that uncommon.
In 2 of my contracts it says very small that in the case of 'loss of income' (as in, they can't find someone else to book my date and take my contract) I could be held liable for the FULL payment.

I should have mentioned that it IS very upsetting, but I don't see much you can do about it - I'd recommend doing what the other girls are saying and booking a second shuttle through them. Or hire 2 companies - keep them and hire a second.
But I know you said you were mad, above everything else, stay calm on the phone when dealing with them - you don't want to cause problems that could affect your wedding day service.

Re: Am i right to be upset?
cant you see if the 1 bus can make 2 trips?? and see what they would charge additional for that ( this will only work if the hotel is close by)

Re: Am i right to be upset?
I would tell them to take me to court to pay the entire amount!!!!! They cant make you pay 100% of services they arent performing, but they can def keep just your deposit.
Im sorry i think you have a case here and I WOULD NOT give them the entire amount at alllll!!!!
Let us know when we can watch you on Judge Judy!!(lol)

Re: Am i right to be upset?
With your wedding in 11 days, i can understand them demanding the full amount, and honestly if they had to take you to court for it like the previous poster said to let them due, they would probably win, and you would probably also get stuck paying for any related court fees. HOWEVER, i understand how upsetting and frustrating it is. What exactly does the contract say? maybe you can just get two busses?

Re: Am i right to be upset?
Hey you have every right to be upset especially since they havent performed a service as of yet but... under most circumstances a deposit is considered non-refundable bc they have held your date but this close to your wedding depending on contractual obligations its very hard for a company to make up that lost business; which is probably the reason for the clause.
1) I agree with most of the girls - see if you can work something out with the compnay and negotiate a special rate for an additional shuttle OR offer to compensate the driver for an additional leg of the trip. 2) It also might be worth a shot asking if they have connections with other limo companies - Sometimes vendors know eachother and in certain situations help eachother out ~ perhaps for an added fee they can outsource a larger bus for you. * Its probably ideal to stay with them and use an additional service because due to the loss of the deposit it will probably cost you just as much else where if you calculate dollars spent. 3) Another idea is to keep them as your shuttle company and use an additional service from else where such as supper shuttle service (sometimes your hotel will have affiliations at discounted rates). Hope this helps
