Am I the last person the hear about the Bellmore football team?

I never watch the news for this reason. I guess you all heard about the Bellmore HS football team and what they did to some of their team members at football camp? I am sick to my stomach. I move to LI to raise my child hopefully in a nice community and this is what goes on 2 towns away????? I burst out crying at the news today between that and the guy in Lynbrook who was murdered walking home from the train.

DH was shocked that I hadnt heard about the football team, even though he knows I dont watch the news or read the paper every day. Now I wish I hadnt. What is the matter with these kids? Why would they do that?

I heard about it. it happened at Mepham all of my cousins went there. They did really gross things to the freshman. Im not really sure why kids would do that... I think if it happened in my school theyd be called GAY!! Tonight on the news they had camera crews there and the kids were throwing water balloons and eggs at the camera Spitting and Cursing at them... Nice Kids most of them are spoiled and Stuck up and mommy and Daddy buy them Brand new bmw and benz and they think they run the world. I probably will get flammed for saying that but.... Sorry. Last week they had a walk out at school cause they didnt think it was fare thst they took they football season away HELLO they stuck a broom handle up some kids bum.......They deserve to be punished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hadn't heard about that. Eww, they put the broom handle WHERE??? And there are kids who think that this is acceptable and are shocked that there are consequences for that type of behavior???

This was NOT THE FIRST time it happened in that school. Yes, all the people involved should be punished, even th eones who watched, and let it happen
I hope they get prosecuted, and they should kick them off the team for good.
Hazing is intolerable, and unacceptable
Something needs to be done.

It happened at the sleep over camp the football team goes to in the summer. Apparantly, a lot of the rest of the team knew about it and did not say anything either. Even the victims did not say anything at first but did a few days later b/c I think it said 2 were bleeding still

They suspended the entire football season and I heard this morning that all the kids are being called back to PA (where the camp is and the crime occured) to be interviewed again because no one will talk.

It is very scary. Especially since I graduated from there (back in the day). It just seems like everyont is trying to excuse this as hazing, and it is not hazing gone wrong it is a criminal act!!

I live in Bellmore but am zoned for Kennedy (amy fisher land) and I am disgusted by the students, their parents and the administration. How do we protect our children from this? This goes far beyond hazing.................Whoever the ringleader was, I have to wonder..........who stuck broomsticks up HIS BUTT and gave him this idea??????

My fiancee lives in Bellmore. We cannot believe that this happened. When I heard about it the first time I could not believe that it happened in bellmore. What are these kids thinking about...when they decide to stick a broom stick, and Acorns up another kids butt.

When im in Bellmore i see all the kids from the highschool driving around with Mepham Pirates written on thier windows....I cannot believe they are sticking up for the kids that did this cruel thing to the freshmen students. I think the kids involved should be punished and all the people that were watching should be punished....

I hope the people who did this are punished...

things are getting way out of hand...there was a fottball player from Hewlett a few years ago who judo chopped another kid (not even near the ball) and broke his arm...and it was caught on video...


as possible future parents...how do you keep your kids from behaving in unacceptable ways???

One of the radio stations this morning had a woman call in and she was saying that it was being blown out of proportion and that the kids shouldn't be kicked out!!!

As a resident of Bellmore, I think these people need come back to reality! Most of these children have little or no supervision or discipline. The world is their oyster and they know it! It makes me sick!

I read a little bit about it...and the coaches were AWOL from the camp for some reason...and the principal knew before of threats...and found out afterwards and didn't call the police!!!

Unfortunately in America those who play sports are put on pedestals and called heroes. They are allowed to get away with things that ordinary people would be locked up or ridiculed for, and they are paid millions and millions of dollars to do it.

I feel that many parents turn a blind eye to their children's behavior in the hopes that the school district will take care of any problems that arise. These parents don't want to be perceived as the 'bad guy'. Many school districts do not hold their athletes to the same code of conduct that other students are required to follow because they want a winning team. So they are willing to look the other way and ignore the bad behavior.

What kind of children are we raising and in what environment when not one young adult, the future leaders of our country, had the courage to take a stand against this awful behavior? Where the parents will not allow their sons to talk to the police? Where a child has to be afraid to go to school? I wish I had the answers. It makes me glad that my children are out of school.

I see so many parents on Long Island worrying more about getting their kid a new car instead of raising the kid with any sense of right or wrong- it's CRAZY

I heard about it last week. My bro-in-law owns a pizzeria right down the block and he know's all the kids on the foot ball team. He couldn't believe it.

There is NO excuse for this crime. It is probably one of the worst things that I have ever heard about. These 3 boys have destroyed those 3 other boys. This is GANG RAPE. And the worst are the other parents who get upset when their kid cannot play football- they could care less about those poor kids. And the administraton KNEW there was a problem too. This is a huge problem in our country- now even a freakin high school not so great football player is put 'special'- how sad for our country. How about the kids who win the science contests- they might help cure Aids or Cancer. They should be the important ones.

There is no excuse for this.. But the school district is not saying anything. My sister went to mepham and I went to Kennedy..( and i did go with Amy Fisher) It is horrible that something like this happened at all... If I were a parent I would be making the school district do something. I heard on the news that Bellmore -Merrick is not cooporaating with the PA police....

Stuff like this discusts me
