Am I the only one NOT having an e-party??? It seems like everyone on LIW has had one or is planning one. FIL's offered to throw us one (one of the only things they have offered to do for the wedding ) but I don't really want one:
- I just had a somewhat large graduation party in January. - I feel like it is such a big production and for many it is almost like a second wedding. I really don't feel like getting invites, favors, guest list, etc. - I feel like people may be less generous when it comes around to your wedding because they already gave a gift, especially in these times. - Personally, I don't like being invited to engagement parties because I feel like it is just a cry for gifts. (Sorry if I am being pessimistic/Debbie Downer/Scrooge... I am PMSing badly so I have an excuse!!!)
Does anyone else feel this way? Am I the lone LI-Wedding-er with no e-party? If you weren't totally psyched for an e-party to begin with, what made you change your mind? FIL's stalk us about it EVERY DAY....

Re: Am I the Only One?
Definitely not having one. We've been engaged since '07 and his parents and my parents have met before he had asked so we didn't see a need for a dinner or anything of the sort.
I do agree with many of your points and we are paying for the wedding so unless someone else was footing the bill, we felt it as unnecessary. Also, we felt we just moved in together 4 months before he asked so if we were to make a registry at the time for gifts there would be nothing on it as we just bought everything we needed. I did tell everyone who I wanted to know that I was engaged and a few close family members just sent us an engagement card, some with a gift anyway.

You are definately not alone. We are not have an e-party because we have been together for 7 years, hang it with all the same people (except co-workers but we have both met them all) and have really small families that have met at mutual showers.
I don't even want a bridal shower..Just the Bachalorette Pary

We're not having one either. If anything, we may have just something casual with family only just so they can all meet.

I almost had one. . .something I thought was easy. . .but the mother's didn't get along and I canceled it. It just wasn't worth the aggravation.

If it helps my sis/MOH threw me an engagement gathering. She did evites instead of using paper invitations and told every guest that they should not bring a gift as it was a time for everyone to have fun, eat, play taboo, and drink. I had about 20 people at my house cute, fun and simple.

An eparty doesn't have to be a big production. It can be casual and laid back and range from a backyard BBQ, picnic in the park to a sit down affair. It is what you make it. I don't think its a cry for gifts (and I don't think they would think that of you - I never felt that way)
I do think some people want to celebrate their engagement and don't want to wait a year or two for the wedding. In my case, we weren't going to have one b/c its an extra expense for us... my mother passed away and my brother is in the navy. We also found out someone in our family was sick and that my brother may not make our wedding next year, but is coming home this summer. So we decided to have a house party...casual and fun....but in good spirits while he is with us. Besides, if my mom was still here, she would throw us one on the sneak... its just their way of sharing in our happiness.

We are not having an engagement party either. Since we are not getting married all that long from now, we felt that it was a lot of planning and money. I agree with you, I feel like sometimes engagement parties can be over kill. Especially, if you are planning on getting married right away. Honestly, we have received a lot of really nice things for our engagement anyway. We didn't send out announcements either. Should we have?

I'm having one. It's July 25th actually It's going to be really casual, just in my sister's backyard. My mom's going to cook and order some heroes. We're going to send out the invites for it soon. My FH and I will have been together for 5 years by the time it happens and in all that time our families have met only twice, I think. So I think it's a good way for our 2 families and our closest friends to meet and get to know eachother before the wedding.

Re: Am I the Only One?
I didn't really have an engagement 'party'. It was more of a nice lunch with both immediate families plus the wedding party that my mom insisted on throwing. I pretty much told her it was not necessary, I didn't want one because I was studying for my licensing exam and we were moving.
She really insisisted so I just told her the place I wanted it and who to invite. I think there were around 25 people. She wanted to do it like 2 months after we got engaged but because of my exam it was about 4 months later.
FMIL really wanted to invite everyone she knew, because both her daughters had huge engagement parties with about 100 people. But I explained it was really just a chance for everyone in our families to meet eachother, and she was very nice about it.

We had an engagement dinner for about 40 of our closest family and friends.... We didnt want an engagement party bc with all the people we had to invite, it would become a mini wedding...

I agree. I am not having a party either. I didn't want to deal with all the stress and I think that it is too much between the bridal shower and the wedding.

we had a party, but it was a bbq in my aunt's backyard, just our immediate families so they could meet.
