Am I the only one (sorry kinda long) ...

Am I the only one (sorry kinda long) ...

not inviting kids to my wedding and getting flack about it from rents, future rents and FSIL?! FSIL basically gave us an ulitimatum (i.e. I can't come unless I bring my kids) this weekend. FH & I almost pulled *all* of our hair out dealing w/ this! UGH!!!! we are at the point that we just can't wait to be on a freaking plane for our HM!

Don't get me wrong, we love kids, our friends kids, nieces, nephews and everyone elses for that matter, but do we want a bunch o kids running around screaming on my wedding day? um no. Why can't people get that? It makes me feel like I am being some bridezilla meenie because of this request.

One of the reasons we don't want kids is because if you invite one, you got to invite them all and quite frankly some kids we know are better behaved than others and just don't want to deal with it.....My stepfamily has a lot of kids and well, they are the misbehaved ones.I am also getting the feeling that our families are forgetting that this is our wedding, not theirs and their friends and long lost cousin so and so's. It also seems that my stepmother seems to think she can invite everyone from her family some of which I don't even know. I am afraid if I don't nip this in the bud she is going to say 'sure you can bring little Johnny' without even asking me and I am afraid if we don't stipulate on the invite Adult Only we will be in a mess. Like a band-aid we are going to rip this one right off!

Who's the bridzilla now? LOL

We are not having kids, except my niece & 2 nephews and FH's 2 nephews at the wedding...but that's because they are all in the BP, and I want them there..and if they misbehave i will personally set them straight..haha...we are hiring a babysitter for out of town guests who have to bring their kids...they will be watched at the hotel they are staying at. Most people get offended, but i don't care...haha...if you don't like it stay home...i made every effort to accommodate where i could!

We're not having kids and it's fine b/c it's our wedding. I do have quite a few people who are having babies like 2 months before and I'm scared that they will try to bring them!

I wanted children at my wedding .. but its each brides own choice i feel and you shouldn't be getting yelled at for not having them... my cousin even called she didnt see her sons names on the invite (though plain as day mind you .. LOL) and she called asking if she had to make arrangements but not mad just asking ... its ur day and ur choice.. good luck

My FSIL is giving us the same problem. I'm sorry, but I just don't think that an event that goes until 1 in the morning is an appropriate place for an 18 month old baby!

I am right there with you. The only kid that will be at our wedding is the 4 year old flower girl. Other then that we have a 12 and over policy. Only 6 guests will be under 18.
Some people were upset and said they didn't knw if they could make it so i just told them they would be missed. Somehow now they are able to find a sitter. Not even my neices and nefew are coming so no one can really make a fuss. To be honest my brother and sister are happy to have a rest from the little ones. So stick to your guns and if they decline coming it's their loss and they will look like te petty ones.
Oh yeah and on my reception card in the ivites it says 'Adult Reception' so no one can say they didn't know.

thats another thing is that we are having an afternoon wedding and so the kids wont be up alll night long and most of them arent little but 5 or so and older so wont be in the way too much .. but hell i love all my little cousins so dam much i wanted them there too ..... thats just me though like i said its your day your decision

I am having the same dilemma. We are not having kids at the reception. We may end up having a babysitter watch a few of the young ones in the bridal suite so that they are not in the way of the reception. I don't want to be mean but we are tight on numbers and with a packed dance floor no one wants a three year old running around.

We are having kids and not having kids. Well my son and nephew will attend the wedding and will be there to take family pictures. But after that the CH/ dinner will be strictly adults. A lot of other family members will be pissed but oh well it is not there day but ours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not having kids to our wedding and people are acutally flying out cross country to watch one of the babies that has to be babysat. Just stick to your guns girl! You dont need kids running around your dance floor, dont get me wrong I love kids but Its no place for a child, a wedding is an adult affair

You are not alone, we are having kids there. It's just easier for us to have them than to not have them invited, it is up to the couple!

You are not a loner! I am having kids at my wedding too. In our case it was not feasible for us to fight people not to bring their kids....If they wanna spend the night chasing their kids that's their problem we figured. But more power to the people who stuck to their guns and said no to kids!!!!

It's your choice, so don't feel bad for putting your foot down. I am lucky that my friends and family don't have young kids, so we don't have to worry about it. But if they did, I would also demand an Adults Only event...the last thing you need to worry about are kids who misbehave on your wedding day.

We didn't have kids, got a few ruffled feathers for it, but stuck to our original plan. I like the Ann Landers line for ultimatums ('If I can't bring my kids, then I'm not coming' etc): 'I'm so sorry to hear that. You'll be missed.' This is your wedding, do what is right for you!

we are only having the kids in our wedding party at our wedding party and that is it! there is no need to have kids screaming and running around at your wedding. I totally agree with you

Phew...thanks for the reassurance ladies. I don't get on too much here, but when I do you are all most helpful It means a lot to me to have a sounding board of women who are going through the same thing at the same time.

After reading your responses and talking to my best friend Kelly, I have decided I am not going to feel bad about this decision and will stick to my guns. Its one day right? Its our day and we are going to make the most of it. Oh and I take back my comment about us being on our HM already... life is way too short to rush this time in my life.

We are having 5 kids at our wedding. 3 of them are my siblings so there was no excluding them. They are between 5 and 11 years old. I'm not too worried they will have a kid friendly table in the back

I don't get that. Why would you WANT to bring an 18 month old to an evening party? Other than that you're so cheap you can't pay for a babysitter. The kid's going to be overtired and cry, the parents won't be able to have fun, or the mother won't, anyway. Doesn't anyone get babysitters anymore? Sometimes I feel like that when I'm in the movie theater watching a horror film and there's a three-year-old in the next row.
