idk why but i never liked it. i mean i'm not irish so maybe that's part of it, but i think knowing how dangerous it is to drive on this day is what drives me crazy. one of my friends was killed in a car accident early in the morning this past halloween so i know firsthand the dangers of drinking. and FH used to commute every single weekend from ny to boston bc of work and i used to die from worrying about him on the road so much. maybe this is why... who knows!!

I'm sorry to hear about your friend

St. Patrick's Day is up there with New Year's Eve, Halloween, Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend in terms of days where I don't want to be on the road.

And while I love the holiday and revel in it (I'm way Irish!), it definitely is Amateur Drinking Night for most people that don't know their limits. Even scarier when they aren't walking distance to their house or a subway.

that is so sad. i can imagine that would make you not very excited about a day where young people tend to drink and be irresponsible

I dislike any day where people get seriously drunk and then stupidly think its okay to drive...Superbowl, World Series, St Pats, Halloween, New Years Eve...I try to stay off the roads those days.

Im sorry about your loss of a friend. Like any other Holiday caution should always be taken when driving. St. pats is a great holiday none the less, Old wonderful tradtions, beautiful proud people and great music. Fortunately and unfortunately drinking is a big part of the tradtions as well. I for one cant wait to get on the train and head out to get my Bag Pipping on

i don't solely blame the holiday... especially since he didn't die on st patrick's day. i'm just not into the holiday that much either but i'm not at all irish... but i do love cornbeef!!! so cornbeed and cabbage, anddd potatoes, do make me happy. and some beer, but NO DRIVINGGG.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend.

I have my own reasons to 'dislike' st. patricks day... although I still celebrate every year...

I don't like it when everyone talks about 'drinking like their irish' and 'kiss me i'm irish' and all those other stereotypes.

its a religious thing over in ireland, and here it just turned into this excuse to drink.. and I don't agree with that at all!

(and i miss dancing at parties and shows, i've been so depressed for the past week that i'll just start crying over it- dance WAS my life)

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

I have a much lighter reason to hate St Patricks day. My first name is Erin and when I was in elementary school, there was always a banner hanging in the school lobby in mid march that said, 'Erin Go Bragh'. I think this means something like, 'Ireland Forever.' So every year, the boys would tease me by singing, 'Erinnnn wears a braaaa!' Which of course was the worst thing I could imagine at 8 years old. And I would fight back by saying really clever things like, 'Noooo I don'tttt!' haha

So I guess I started liking St Patricks when I reached the age when boys no longer thought that 'wearing a bra' was something disgusting.

i kind of dislike st patricks day. and i'm like really irish so it's kind of akward for me.
i don't like corned beef (barffff ) and i'm not really all that much into drinking (especially beer)

BUT . . . where I live, St. Patrick is the patron Saint - SO, it's a feast day . . . which means i got to skip out on lent today . . . SO I WAS ABLE TO HAVE COOKIES!!!
