Am I totally crazy here?

FH and I decided on two RHs that we'd consider having our reception at. We've been to a lot of RHs on Long Island over the years, so it wasn't necessary to go to places that we had already been to. We want to keep the wedding planning as simple as possible.

My mom doesn't feel like we visited enough places, so she's taken it upon herself to see RHs on her own. She went to see another place during the day today.

This weekend, my parents and FH are going to our first choice for an appointment to get more finalized pricing. I'm not sure if we'll sign a contract this weekend.

I feel like she is undermining the decision FH and I have already made as far as rehersal halls.

What do you ladies think?

tell her that you'll take her suggestions into consideration, and then promptly forget everything she suggests lol

just go with your gut ... it's your wedding, not hers

I agree. This is a wedding for YOU and YOUR FH! What matters is what the two of you like, what you can afford, etc. Just listen to her, and go ahead with what you and FH have decided on.

My Mom has been the same way lately. She is like 'oh I like this ring as your wedding ring.' I'm like Its not her ring to wear for the rest of her life, its mine!

So just do what you and your FH originally planned to do!

Is she paying for the wedding?? If she is she probably feels she has a say..if she is not I would tell her nicely that you and FH will be picking the place you like.

Both of our families are chipping in for wedding costs; FH and I are contributing financially as well.

My mom has seemed to have the most vocal opinion about almost every aspect of our wedding.

I know she's excited, and I want her to be involved with the planning, but I'm not sure where to cut her off.

JUST TODAY I asked my boss, the SAME question...'Am I losing my mind or are they both way out of line?' 'They both' meaning my mom and my FMIL. Both have taken it upon themselves to visit halls without even letting me know. Halls we weren't even interested in. Both have given catering hall managers my name and #. FMIL has visited halls after I told her FH and I did, walked in, introduced herself, and haggled. All I can say is that you are not crazy, nor are you alone! In my strongest moments I tell myself to open the window and let them in, bond, share, everyone feels involved and happy. When one takes a mile from the inch I gave, BAM, the window shuts and I keep them in the dark for a few weeks. Seems to be working w/ FMIL so far! Best of luck and vent any time!

P.S. If you and FH are on the same page and want to keep it simple, you are at such an advantage. Run with that plan and don't look back!

Thank you so much for the advice, I really appreciate it. I'm glad I'm not alone in this situation.

I'm sure I'll be ranting again about my mom's other necessities for the wedding, lol.

Go with your fist instinct like the other brides have said. You might regret changing your mind if you don't get that same 'feeling' with the other place as you did with your first choice. Believe in yourself and the decisions you make!
