Am I wrong for being annoyed?

Am I wrong for being annoyed?

FI & I decided not to have an engagement party cause we felt it wasn't fair to have one now-collect gifts from people and then have our wedding a couple of months later and collect gifts again.

Our friends did appreciate this being they have there own things going on and they can all use that money they would have shelled out...BUT the thing that annoys me was all of FI friends (actually the ones I don't like) told FI and me SEVERAL times that they have a gift for us for our engagement...now don't get me wrong...I don't expect, nor need, anything... but isn't it a bit rude to constantly tell me EVERY time you see me that you have to get us or already got us something and never give it to us??

We've been engaged since March!! How long do I have to hear this??

Next time they mention the gift, tell them, 'We are still at the same address, so you can mail it there, Thanks!!'

I understand that you do not need the gift, nor are you asking for it, but this will put them in their place!!

It is annoying but on't let them get to you. I like Lisa'a answer!

My DH was in a similar situation with a b-day present and it was so annoying. For about a year this one couple said almost every time we saw them - that they still owe him a gift. (I had a surprise party for DH and told people no gifts but almost everyone still brought one except them.)They would even say they had the perfect gift all picked out. After awhile DH and I made it our own private joke. We were just like don't say anything - you just look silly - but of course we didn't say that to them. To our surprise almost a year later the gift came. Then over a year later was my 30th b-day and they even called DH asking my favorite stores and stuff and guess what no gift! Well, they still have 5 months for a year....so we shall see - lol!

I've been hearing this too, with a shower gift. I feel like saying, 'Look, you don't have to get me anything, so don't even worry about it.' I KNOW if this person actually had a gift for me, they would have sent it by now. I think people say it because they DONT have a gift, and they feel awkward when they see you. It's like when a guy tells you he'll call you at the end of a date, and he really has no intention of calling. It's just something to say in an awkward moment.....

That's my opinion anyway. It IS annoying. I think they make the situation MORE uncomfortable by mentioning it...
