I don't blame you for feeling like this. Since obviously she already offered to host your rehearsal dinner...can you have FH ask her to allow you guys to plan it instead of her? If not tell her you are already taking care of it. Sorry she's such a headache

Maybe if you pay for it yourself? Then your in control of everything. You don't have to have one, but if it's something you want, then you should find a way to do it. Even if it's at your house and you just invite the BP..... don't let her ruin anything for you. Your only going to do this once, you should have everything you want!!

That might be a good alternative.
Thanks.

Hey, I am sorry you have such a 'winner' on your hands. I am sure your parents are just as excited as you are about the RD. my question to you is this, If she doesn't host it, will she still attend?

the reason I ask is b/c her bad behavior will more likely come out whether she foots the tab or not. unless you feel that her being 'in charge' will make things even worse, let her pay.

unless she doesn't go at all, how much of a difference will it make in how she behaves?

My attitude with everyone is if you don't like what we're doing with our wedding, then you don't have to attend it or any party associated with it (FH has even said this to her). So think that she'd suck it up and come because it would kill her to be anywhere else - she knows that she'd only be hurting herself if she did this. However, I'd expect her to guilt trip her son to end.

I have a similar issue with FFIL. He is VERY opinionated, and often times his expression of his opinions makes me uncomfortable/unhappy/mad.
Since we are getting married at our reception site, I am cutting out the rehearsal and thus also cutting out the rehearsal dinner. Would you consider that? I wouldn't mind the rehearsal, but now it is easier to justify not having the rehearsal dinner (and thus I avoid an uncomfortable event)

Good luck

I am getting married at my reception site, too, and with half of the bridal party being from out of town, I was thinking today that I should just forget the rehearsal altogether!

I would tell her that I appreciate all that shes throwing the engagement party and that she is doing MORE then enough. Tell her that your parents would be honored to throw the rehersal dinner and that it would mean so much if they did.. even if you have to pay for it yourself. Believe me.. I know how hard it is to deal with inlaws. My FMIL takes the cake.. Shes arrogant and VEIN!

WEll I don't want my FMIL throwing my rehersal dinner either she has no concept she thinks I am being ridiculous for having 8 girls in m y bridal party hello well if you didn't have so many kids then I wouldn't have to but your son wants his 5 brothers his best friend and my 2 brothers in the party so I have to have 8. Any way off subject sorry well she just nit picks about everything and wants what she wants and wants to invite people we don't even know so I told FH that we are throwing our own rehersal diner if MIL wants to chip in for it then fine but I am......I mena wee are making all the arrangements and invites

She's a control freak. I'm sorry you are dealing with this.

ok well first its completely rude to invite people to an E-party that arent going to be invited to the wedding ....I dont blame you for being up set - she is over stepping boundaries

I would tell her althought you appreciate it very much - you feel uncomfortable letting her do this because she has done so much - you want to keep it low key so on and so forth

You have to speak to FH 1st and make sure that he backs you up -
to be honest i would have him talk to her with you and you back him up but thats JMO

I didnt mean that you were rude so please dont take it that way - did you tell her that, maybe you should buy an educate book and go through it with her ...and let her know that your so greatful but you really want the whole bridal party there ....I mean if she is doing it for YOU & your FH should the people that you want be there -

Don't worry - I know that you weren't calling me rude!
I just gave up on talking to her about it when I realized that she wasn't listening to her own son telling her that she shouldn't have this party.
