Amniotic Banding??? I need info! ***Update and pic at bottom*
So I just got back from my nuchal testing. I had gone on Thursday but the baby wouldn't cooperate so I had to go back tonight. All is well w/ the baby and the neck measurement looked great, but long story short, there is a questionable line in my uterus that might be amniotic banding. Evidently, amniotic banding occurs when a piece of the placenta gets into the uterus and causes a 'floating membrane' by the baby. The sono tech didn't seem TOO certain that that's what it was, but they're worried enough that they're sending me for a level II sono this week @ Stonybrook. It's hard for me to write, but the worst case scenerio w/ amniotic banding is that the membrane can wrap around a limb and amputate it in utero. If anyone has any info I would appreciate it - otherwise, please just say a wish that it's not that for me.

You'll be in my prayers. Please post an update when you get back from your sono.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Try not to worry since the tech wasn't certain of anything it could end up being nothing. I will keep you and your little on in my prayers that everything will turn out just fine.

I had never even heard about amniotic banding until about a week ago. The idea of it is very scary, but I'm sure they're just trying to take extra precautions. You'll be in my thoughts

Thank you everyone! I hadn't really heard anything of it either and I when I went to look online last night the one site I pulled up had AWFUL pictures that I couldn't look at so I stopped my search. I just tried calling to make an appt for the sono and they can't see me until the 1st week in April! So, I have to call my dr and tell them to call the place to rush it.

A friend of mine had this with her first child and I don't know all the details of what she went through but she did have a healthy baby (and two more after that)!

Re: Amniotic Banding??? I need info!
Thanks for that bit of good news! The only thing the dr has really told me so far is that if I DO have it then I have to go for weekly sono's throughout the rest of my pregnancy to make sure the membrane doesn't go near the baby. The only thing he didn't tell me is if they see that it is, what can be done??

Thank you SO much to Bxgell who took time out of her day and Fm'd me TONS of info on this. It was much more reassuring than the way the dr presented it to me.
My doctors office is so wonderful - they got me in to for the level II on Thursday @ 9AM. Please make a wish that all is OK for my baby!! Thank you all so much for your concern!!!

My sister had amnotic banding with her second son if you need more info you can FM. If seen early enough it can be treated. In my sisters case they found out to late and my nephew is missing his finger on his left hand.

So, we went this morning and we are FINE!!! No banding!!! This sono tech said she wasn't sure WHAT the other sono tech saw, but there is NOTHING wrong with my froggie or it's home I am so relieved and happy I can't even explain it. Unfortunately, because I'm only in my 14th wk, it wasn't a true Level II sono so it was just a higher resolution regular sono. Who cares??? I saw my baby and it's PERFECT!!!
Thank you all again for all your wishes and prayers and info.
