Both of my parents have passed away. I was thinking about having my junior bridesmaid carry a replica of my mom's bo-q down the aisle and leave it on the seats where my parents would be sitting. THen, when my aunt and unlce walk me down the aisle and go to their seats, they would sit next to the bo-q. What do you think? Is it morbid? I want to do it, but do not want people to be sad at the wedding...
Thanks

Re: an idea for honoring my parents
I don't think it's morbid all.
I think people will like that you made a point to honor that your parents weren't able to be there in body but I am sure they will be there with you in spirit.

I think it is a wonderful idea...No more morbid than lighting a candle (which a lot of people do)

I think that it is a wonderful idea. We had a table of pictures of people that have passed and some might have thought it was morbid but it was important to us!! We had the table in the lobby then moved into a corner by us during the reception.

I dont like the idea of leaving seats empty for loved ones who have passed away. To me that is kinda morbid.

i think anyway you think up to hour your mom and da on your wedding day will be beautiful and not at all morbid. when i got married i wanted to have a picture montage of my dad set to music at the reception i received a lot of flack from relatives saying it would be too sad. but i did it anyway and people were coming up to me allnight saying how moved they were and how they wished they would have done something to honor there loved ones that passed at there wedding. i say do it you wouldnt feel right if you didnt. i think people will think its great because your parents will be apart of your special day after all.

Re: an idea for honoring my parents
My cousin got married a couple months back, and I was very surprised to see he didn't do anything at the church for this father...but then I understood...it's hard on everyone to see it. I think the seats may be too much. As a guest I would probably cry right through the ceremony...actually I'm crying right now thinking about the idea. I think a candle may be gentler. Then, at the reception, they played a slow song in dedication to his father and asked everyone to join in dancing to the song in his memory. It was beautiful, the whole hall, EVERYBODY, was on the dancefloor dancing to this beautiful slowsong. As you looked around, you saw tears and sadness around the floor, but I beleive everyone was soooo happy to participate in an activity to remember him. It was beautiful. You should definitely consider that!

Re: an idea for honoring my parents
that is one of the most thoughtful and touching things i've ever heard!!
i know you don't want to upset people, but in my opinion it's a wonderful way to include them in your ceremony. i'm sure people will be upset when they see that, but on the other hand they it's a nice representation that they are there with you in spirit and it'll help everyone else remember that as well.

Re: an idea for honoring my parents
My mom passed away when I was 8. I am leaving her seat empty (first aisle seat on left). When I walk up the aisle I am having a small breakaway bouquet that I will be untying from mine and placing in a vase on the back of her chair. Then I will kiss my Dad (he won't walk with me as he is disabled) and walk towards my FH.
I won't say anything but people will get the idea. For his side, I might explain it in the program or I'm sure word will spread.
I think it is a beautiful idea. You must honor your deceased parents on such a day.

Re: an idea for honoring my parents
I think it is beautiful. As I stated in another recent post, remembering someone is a very personal thing. I lost someone very close to me recently. We do not plan to do any large things for them although we will likely make mention of their absence in the ceremony. My point is, what matters most is what you think and what you feel, not what other people have as an opinion. They do not have to do the same thing at their wedding. Your mom would be proud to know she raised such a thoughtful and loving daughter.

Re: an idea for honoring my parents
I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't think it would be morbid, actually I think it's a very beautiful idea- though I would say I might find it a little hard and would probably be crying all the way through the ceremony seeing this. My mom passed away a few years ago and I knew my wedding would be very hard w/o her. I had seen this type of idea mentioned (although I think it was to leave a seat empty at the reception) and I truly thought it would be too hard on myself and family. So, I had some daisies (her favorite flower) put on our table along with my lilacs in a vase. It felt right for me, and I know those people who knew her well knew this was for her. Whatever you decide, just remember they are with you somehow. Good luck
