I can say that just the pregnancy has made us closer in many ways since I depend on him so much now (due to my nerve problems and GD). I can also stay that we are home a lot more now since I cannot do as much. It is a very intimate thing to have your husband read a children's book to your belly IMO. I think it is a very enduring thing that we share.

I have to be honest, with the move and having a baby at the same time, it has been VERY stressful on our relationship. And, Lyla has been an especially demanding baby. If anything, we have been 'through it all' together and these things just bring us closer. Especially if you can get through stressful times without fighting or arguing to much.
Sometimes I feel more like we are Lyla's parents than Peter and Niha as a couple. I think it's important to get nights out together, even if it's just a couple of hours. I think it's really extra effort that both partners have to make to rekindle anything that gets lost after having a baby.

The pregnancy has definitely brought us even closer together. But, I'm not sure what changes the baby will bring. I think there will be an adjustment period with both of us getting used to our new roles. And I'm sure there will be a time when we'll both be more focused on being parents than husband and wife, but I'm sure that will pass too.
I'm curious what the BTDT moms have to say though ...

This is just my own experience...but, I remember Jeff and I being very much in 'la-la land' during the pregnancy. It's all very sweet and exciting and sometimes nerve-wracking (let's face it!)...but, for the most part, we were both glowing with the anticipation of adding to our family unit.
However, as soon as the baby arrives, life changes completley - and forever. It is very tiring and demanding somedays, and you really do have to work at making special time for one another. I can completely relate to what Niha said about 'being Paul's parents' more than being Claudine and Jeff, couple in love The baby's needs definitely come first.
But, as your child grows and becomes more independent (even with small things like drinking and eating by themselves), your life (as a couple) starts to change again...you can actually have a conversation during dinner, rather than someone's focus being entirely on feeding the baby. Raising a child is an evolutionary process, and along with all the changes in your child's life come all the changes you'll experience as a couple. As long as you can stay 'in tune' with one another, and continue to grow together and adapt, it's a breeze!

I know that things will change after a baby since the baby will be the focus and not the 'couple' -- I just wanted to see everyones own individual experiences and if they differed from the drastic changes that people tell you occur. Thanks for the responses.
