our guest list is so long and we are paying everything ourselves. we settled on not writing 'and guest' on the invites for single people (unless they are engaged or have a significant other that's been around a while that we know fairly well). Now I'm wondering though since yesterday on Easter my older cousin showed up with a guy...what to do??? is it tacky to not invite a guest?? which cant afford all those extra people that we dont know and may not be around very long , if ya know what i mean!!

Sorry, I believe that the single people are entitled to have someone accompany them just as much as the married people. I also think that it is not the bride and groom's place the try to judge how serious someone else's relationship is.
i agree with this. but, we invited all singles with a guest, and most aren't bringing a date.
I agree. I haven't been invited anywhere without a guest since I was 18. I can tell you that if I was invited somewhere without a guest before I was engaged or living with FH, I wouldn't have gone- no matter who the people were. I'd rather mail a gift then have to sit there by myself all night. So, if you're not inviting them with guests, you should be okay with the fact that they might not come. We invited everyone with a guest, and when the list got too high we just cut it off...no more people, but everyone with guests. JMO.

Re: 'and guest'???
I think that you should figure in how many people you are inviting to your wedding including people's dates then determine where you can afford to have your wedding. Your guests do not have to bring a date, but the considerate thing to do is to give them the opportunity. If I had to have my wedding at a different place so that I could be considerate of my friends, I would do that. Most of the people I know who did not invite guests just did it so that they could go overboard in other areas. I have already told 2 of my friends that if they do not want to bring a real date, they might consider asking their moms to join us, since their guest is their choice. They LOVED the idea and it is a small price to pay for my friends to be happy with me and not call me 'bridezilla!!' (both moms are widowed and both are very sociable and would be fun additions to the wedding).

I'm in the same position, and I really don't feel bad about it, mostly because it was done to me and I didn't really mind.
And if they are upset, they'll just have to get over it!
