'And Guest' Etiquette

Original post by quirkybride

Should I be inviting all of my single friends with a guest? I'd rather keep the numbers down with our budget, but I don't want to be rude. Thanks.

my friend told me proper ettiquette is everybody gets a guest. i'm sure it's a nice gesture but FH and I are paying for this. therefore, only those with significant others and extremely close single friends are getting a guest. others can go suck it. sorry..had to say it!

THIS!
Most of our single friends know each other so they are fine sitting together

It came down to inviting everone with a guest or being able to choose certain vendors over others... We decided we'd rather have the wedding of our dreams and chance a few ppl being 'upset' than satisfying everyone else and not getting to have what we really had our hearts set on.

if someone is in a relationship then i'll write each specific name on the envelope. if someone is single, only they are invited. i really dont care if thats tacky or what, but (1) i dont want random people i dont know at my wedding and (2) i dont want to spend a crazy amount of money on random people i dont know at my wedding. i dont want to look back at my photo album or video and say 'oh look at that weird guy cousin annie dated for three days. hes in so many pics!' that would really piss me off.

to be quite honest, I don;t really have any singles friends and the ones I do I know won't bring anyone (they are in the BP), but I am still extending the guest to them I am also not inviting younger family or family friends without guest (like 18-21) years old. If they are dating anyone at the time, i know they will ask me if they can come and Ill have no problem with it.

THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of FH's friends asked me if they are being invited with a guest. I politely said no - tight guest list. What I WANTED to say was - who the hell would you be bringing anyway?! You're not dating anyone, so why would I pay for you to invite a random person? All your friends are going to be at the wedding already!!

That's what you're supposed to do. you're supposed to write the actual SO's name on it.

We didn't. We have two people we gave guest since they dont really know anyone else. But for the most part our friends are all couples or they have lots of family and friends there. We just couldnt afford it and we didn't have the space.

I don't agree with the whole 'if they're in a 'serious' relationship' thing.

First of all, who are you to judge whether or not someone is in a 'serious' realtionship? That term is very subjective. There's a girl in my grad school class who's 30 and has been dating a guy for 5 weeks that she refers to as 'very serious'--which is obviously ridiculous.

We invited all of our guests with a + 1 and our reasoning is that we wanted everyone to have fun and dance!! I wouldn't want someone sitting at my wedding and not dancing because they don't have a date. We just wanted everyone to have someone to talk to, to hang with, and most improtantly, to dance with!

My MOH is not in a serious relationship but she will most liekly bring a guy that she has fun with and knows will dance with her all night long.

I'm inviting everyone with a guest. We actually have noticed most of our single guests are saying they are not going to bring anyone. We still felt it was nice to offer it.

Only doing guests for people in relationships and people invited that know no one else at the wedding. Everyone else gets no guests. My single family members especially get no guests they have each other.

We are basically inviting all of our single friends without guests (since they are in a group of friends anyway).

All of our friends in relationships when the invites were printed are getting guests.

I have 2 friends that started dating people recently, and I told them that if we have room, they can probably bring their new flings.

I guess I feel like I can judge or make my decision because, well, I'm paying for it!

If they don't want to attend, more power to them. They don't have to come
