And so it begins

I just got off the phone wih one of my bms and I was asking her how is twin getting to the wedding seeing as though she doesnt drive and isn't invited with a guest and she says 'maybe she can get a ride with my date'. I was like what date, you are not invited with a guest either and then she got silent. I told her only married and ppl in long term relationships are invited with guest because thats all we can afford. He is single and has been for years. I asked her who did she want to bring, she said, 'i dont have anyone in mind yet'. I told her that when ppl drop out I will lether know if she can bring someone. I have so many friends that are not invited with a guest but I'm not trying to be mean, I can only do what my pockets can afford. Why can't ppl understand that. We have been friends for 16 years it's not like she doesnt know anyone else there. I dred talking to my other friends when my invites go out and they see that they are not invited with guests

I don't think you should worry about people wanting to bring guests. They should understand and respect your choice.

I totally understand what you're going through. You've done exactly what is the right thing to do. Most people don't understand HOW MUCH every single person adds up at a wedding and Plus Ones are the first cause of it for a lot of couples! Good luck. Just stand your ground, you are doing the right thing. We did the same thing too. Once we got our final final number we were able to tell our bp who could have a date if they MUST.

Hmm I don't know about this. My FMIL wanted to invite some people without guests and I was very against it. If I can't afford a guest I'd rather not invite them at all. I'd be insulted if I received an invitation without guest - even if I was single. To each his own I guess.

This is a tough one that FH and I debated on. I personally feel that at the very minimum the bridal party should be allowed to bring a date, they're (supposedly lol) doing a lot for you and at the minimum spending a lot to be in your wedding. I feel it's only fair to let them bring a date.

I also am of the mind set that adults should be invited with a date (single or not). I've actually RSVP'd NO to weddings that I had wanted to go to because I was invited without a date. I just think it's kinda awkward (and a lot less fun) to be dateless at a wedding.

We decided to cut extra people off the guest list so we could allow people closer to us to bring dates so that they are able to enjoy themselves more.

I do think it's rude of your friend to ASSUME they're invited with a guest though, that stinks and I'm sorry you're dealing with that.

you have to do what you have to do. its your wallet, not theirs. hopefully they understand that in the end!!

Just send out your invites and don't worry about other guests reactions. Are they sitting around worrying about how much you're spending. Maybe she was just surprised, but I think you did good and told her the truth. Everyone will just have to get over it. Don't worry it will all work out!

Dawnette needs to understand! If not then she is not a good friend to you!!! She doesn't need a date!!

FH and I are also not allowing guests for people who aren't in long-term relationships.

Does anyone have any advice on whether we could possibly write something on the invitations or RSVP cards that would hint at this? i don't want to be rude, but i also don't want to pay for people i don't care about.
