And the wedding drama BEGINS

Original post by xcalystax

I thought we were doing pretty well in terms of avoiding the wedding drama until the last couple of weeks. First of all my dad FREAKED out because I didn't put his sister on the guest list who lives in another country and who we have not seen in over a decade...instead of just asking me to put her on the list he throws the list on the floor and storms off

Well we took care of that problem but now on to another issue that is still not resolved.... FH spoke to his brother recently (who will be a groomsman) and told him about the no kids policy at the reception... well FH's brother started ranting and raving about how ridiculous that was and that his kids(ages 7 and 18 months) would have a blast dancing the night away (we are having an evening reception). He then told FH that now he would have a big fight with his wife about this because she will not be pleased and to not be surprised if they decide not to show (they live in TX)....FH stood his ground against his older brother but I could tell he felt really hurt and upset (I felt ready to slam his brother on the floor and beat him down). The thing is two years ago we spent over $2K flying to Costa Rica for his brother's destination wedding!!!!! It sure as hell was inconvenient, expensive and disruptive but we did it because he is FH's brother and it was his wedding after all!!! FH's brother did not even make FH a groomsman and instead had two best men (his college buddies) which made my FH feel terrible yet again....

AND... when FH asked his brother to be a groomsman his first reaction was not 'oh thanks for asking I would be honored'....NOPE! He asks 'You don't plan to do the corny bridal party seating do you?!? I need to sit with my wife.' He is such an @ss. First of all we are not doing the bridal party seating but if we wanted to then he would just need to deal with it!!! He is the oldest and his parents treat him like a god which is why he cops such attitude!

Sorry for venting but I am just so frustrated and worried about what he will pull next.

At a wedding I went to recently.... they parents DID NOT WATCH THE KIDS... and they ran around all night long even while the band was singing a special song for the bride and groom they ran all around the guy who was singing. Stand your ground .... it is your wedding after all!!

I have to agree with this! I went to a wedding..and none of the kids were being watched by their parents...and to be honest..it was HORRIBLE! They got in the way of the photographer, videographer..and during the ceremony were very disruptive. If it's no children..then it should be no children..no exceptions for anyone!!! If you go to a restaurant, movie and they say no children...they don't make exceptions..so why should you have to make one for someone who is obviously being very immature. I'll never understand why people feel when a wedding comes around they are entitled to do as they please. I'm having a situation myself..and I'm standing my ground. NO CHILDREN..and whoever doens't like it..can go fly a kit! GOOD LUCK!

I completely understand, I recently have had a few dramatic moments with the guest list also. People make comments. For once, you can be selfish and do what you want, it's your day.

what a pain the a$$...we had similar situations with the no kids allowed...but that eventually flew out the window...all I've gotta say is those parents better watch their kids...they wanted them there, its their responsibilty...As far as your FBIL, he shouldn't demand that his kids come to the wedding..its your wedding you both should decide...a evening wedding is primarily for adults..its late for kids....when I was younger I was never allowed to go to weddings b/c it was for adults..so we had a babysitter---what's with parents today---it worked when we were kids...why does it need to change now?????

My two cents:

I dont think its your FBIL who is the issue. Sounds to me that he doesn't want to deal with a cranky wife all night and wants to keep/make the peace before SHE has a hissy fit about seating and kids.

Ive said this a million times before and I am not above saying it again. I think that all too often, people use (or want to use) weddings as opportunities to showcase how cute their children are - an attention seeking thing. Thiis of course without consideration to the bride and the groom (and their families.) We all have different reasons as to why we do or do not want children at our functions. Sometimes it is money. Sometimes it is simply because we don't want children running around at a formal party. I had a black tie Saturday night wedding and the children in the BP went home after the CH with grandparents - all but my 2 and a half year old nephew who slept in a port-a-crib off to the side. No one knew he was there.
