What, wait until we have 2 kids and a house/taxes to pay for? Right now we're living with my parents and have no major expenses.

Then she and FH go on and on about how great Costa Rica is..because a friend of FH's just went there and had a great time. I really have no interest in CR.

Anyway, once FMIL says something..FH listens.

Where else can I go in September that doesn't have many hurricanes and isn't Costa Rica or Hawaii?

I would day if you really want to go to Hawaii you should. I went in November and it was awesome.
Otherwise I would say Aruba.

Ditto - I love Hawaii. We were going to go again for our HM, but decided on Aruba instead. If you and your FH decided you could afford Hawaii and you want to go to Hawaii, you should go to Hawaii (it is your HM after all - and you only have one!). It is definitely a place you want to go once without any children!

Yes hawaii is expensive and it was definitely my first choice. I didn't think my FH and i would be able to go there, but the thing you have to think about it... when will you able to go there next? In 20 years after your kids are grown? Hawaii is not really somewhere where you bring your kids... its too expensive.

I say... go to hawaii. Costa Rica will always be there and will be more accessible to go to than hawaii! Its your honeymoon!!! Do what makes you happy!

I love her to death but I can't see when in the future we'll be able to do it AND enjoy it.

Go to Hawaii. A honeymoon should be a once in a lifetime trip that you talk about and reminisce forever. It should be something you have always dreamed of doing. Who cares if you don't have enoough $. You saved for the wedding, so you can save to pay the HM off.

Costa Rica is awesome, but its much closer and much cheaper. We are thinking of going there for our 1 year anniversary.

I say go to Hawaii if u want to ....is she paying for it???? if not go where u want that is where we are going!!!
If not try spain!!!

That would make me want to be spitefull and want to go to Hawaii even more!!! Grrr!!

Is there some reason you have to go somewhere other than your dream honeymoon to Hawaii?? I didn't read anything in your post to suggest that. Just because FMIL thinks it's too expensive doesn't mean it is. And so what if it was?? It's your honeymoon, your once in a lifetime.

Her opinion shouldn't mean a darn thing!
