A friend of mine had a wedding to go to last night. The bride was persian and the groom was italian. GET THIS.... they invited 1500. Only expected 1000 to show ( mind you the ballroom only holds 1000) well 1400 rsvp's yes!!! They had to put tables in the hall way and take out all the bars from the corners of the room and put those in the hallway also!!
Can you imagine 1400 people at your wedding?!?!!? Times almost $100 a plate

Oh and Jimmysbride the bride kind of reminded me of you... in her culture people are known for showing up REALLY LATE

She had to put on the invitations that the ceremony started at 6 in hopes they would be there by the time it really started... at 8!

I could not imagine that! I don't think FH and I even KNOW that many people!

FH has a friend who is Nigerian who had 1000 people at his wedding. How do you relax and have fun with so many people there?

OMG! All the other logistics aside Can you imagine what they got for gifts!!!! They can probably buy a small country.

How do you even coordinate that many invites/favors...are the bride and groom supposed to greet every guest? How long is that conga line?

How many thankyou's do they have to write?

I went to the Wyndham (Hyatt now) Wind Watch the other night to block book rooms and they said they do a lot of Indian/Asian weddings. The SMALLEST one was 580! And, they arrange it all within 3 months

My fiance works at the wyndham/hyatt as a bartender. While the Indian weddings tend to be fairly big, the employees were definitely exagerating (sp?) when they told you that. He has done many 100-200 person Indian weddings there. He also mentioned that those parties NEVER tip

Wow, I thought my friend's Greek Orthodox wedding was big - they had about 600 people!!!! But 1400 is insane!!!

Personally, I didn't really like being at a wedding that was so big. After the actual ceremony, they asked everyone to remain seated in their pews and the couple came to each one and 'dismissed' the guests sitting there and greeted each one as they left. I thought it was a good thing to do, a good way for them to get to see everyone, but I was sitting fairly close to the front. I can imagine what it was like for the people waiting to be dismissed in the back!!!
