I just read an article about a HUGE meat recall, and in it, it said that some workers abused animals who were too sick to walk into the slaughterhouse - pushing animals with forklifts to get them in there. Do things like this make anyone else sooooo incredibly sad that you almost cry???? First of all, I think of the animals actually knowing what's about to happen to them, which I know I shouldn't and which I know is probably not true, but can you imagine these animals being sick to begin with and then knowing they are being PUSHED to their deaths????
Secondly, stories like this just make me sooooo mad and upset. I read them and I kick myself for not going into a field that would allow me to help animals. I always wanted to be a vet, ever since I was 5. If I had the $$, I would go back to school. For now I'll just have to donate whatever money I can to the cause.....
(Those new Pedigree commercials, where the dogs are in cages waiting to get picked out by new owners, makes me cry, seriously.)
ETA: Sorry for the sad vent. I just get soooooo mad when I see poor, defenseless animals being abused and had to comment on it....

Untill Americans are willing to pay more than they currently do for their meat and poultry products ( which studies say they aren't), there aren't going to be any changes to the meat and poultry industries. As veterinarians we learn a lot about the packing industry and food safety and truely you are more likely to get sick from spinach than you are a 'downer cow'. That being said I'm a vegetarian anyway, I'll take my chances with the spinach. . The only way to change the way the industry is run and where it is heading is to let the industry know that we are unhappy with the way our food products are raised and are willing to pay for change.

i was so sad to hear that today.. i can't believe people can be this cruel to hurt poor creatures.. i said prayer for those people.. they surely will pay for the sins..
