Animals and the hurricane...

Original post by BMD'sPeanut

I was flat out bawling my eyes out (crying- hysterical-sobbing) this morning while watching GMA and their discussions on the animals who were left behind (and some reunited) after the storm.

Anyone else?!??!?!

I'd like to send money to help this cause. I wonder which would be the best. I think my Mom donated to the (A)SPCA. Maybe I'll do that.

Anyone else??

I saw on Current Affair (I think) a couple that was in the hospital watching Oprah & they saw their dog being rescued on Oprah & then they showed the reunion. It had me teary eyed.

Re: Animals and the hurricane...

I have offered to donate time to some of the Local shelters that are taking in animals from the Katrina efforts. It is really hard to donate $$ for us with the new house, but we also have donated our old (but clean) puppy blankets, old chew toys that our pups no longer play with, old leashes & Harnesses, etc.

I have to say I'd die without my puppies. I don't know if I'd have the courage to leave them, so I feel like if my pups were to become orphaned I could only wish that someone would understand & take care of them as I would.

I agree, it is ridiculous that the rescue groups are not allowed in. I mean, even though I'm an animal lover, I understand that people have to be rescued first. But, the people who want to be rescued have, and its not using any gov't resources if the private groups rescue the animals...

OMG! You had to see on Oprah, this one guy they were ready to rescue and put on a helicopter but they wouldn't let him take his dog. He REFUSED to leave his dog, and was holding his doggie and crying and stuff. Finally another guy was like 'I'll take your dog and take care of him and make sure you get him back.' The dog owner broke down in this guys arms in gratitude. And I broke down right along with him.

I saw this and lost it.

I donated a bunch of stuff to my local shelter when my cat passed away. I don't think they will drive it to New Orleans, but donations are always wanted. Also, if anyone has any old air conditioners, I know the shelter near me needed them to keep the animals cool in summer.

We sent as a group, $250.00 to the animals (ASPCA)thru my BIL's job , and they matched the donation. I was also crying, hopefully those animals will find there owners.
One of DH friends said we were crazy to not give to the people- I cannot wait for him to call so I can give him a peace of my mind. (We donated used clothing etc. to the people.)

My Job (a pet products company) is matching 50% of whatever the employees and customers donate to SPCA. We are also donating dog crates to the shelters. Its the least we can do.

I guess I would die there too, b/c I would NEVER leave my pets ( I have 7) the horror of their eyes would haunt me for the rest of my life if I lived and left them behind!

I would NEVER leave my dog..I could never live with myself knowing that I left her behind and god forbid she didnt survive or I was unable to be reunited with her.
