Animals and the hurricane...

Animals and the hurricane...

I was flat out bawling my eyes out (crying- hysterical-sobbing) this morning while watching GMA and their discussions on the animals who were left behind (and some reunited) after the storm.

Anyone else?!??!?!

I'd like to send money to help this cause. I wonder which would be the best. I think my Mom donated to the (A)SPCA. Maybe I'll do that.

Anyone else??

Re: Animals and the hurricane...

It's so sad and I just got an email saying that the Mayor is no longer allowing animal rescue groups to enter! Here's the email:

The link below will take you to a petition to get the Mayor of New Orleans to let people evacuate with their pets and to let the rescue people into New Orleans. Please sign the petition and forward this email. (Please note: If you do not want to receive future emails from 'the petition site', just remove all the checks in the 'interest' boxes before clicking the submit button.)

Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans has stopped all animal rescue now that mandatory evacuation has begun. Please sign this petition, and forward it to anyone you can to sign, to make sure animals are included. Many are chained and cannot get food. Animals can survive on the water for now, but they are going to starve to death, and the water will shortly become contaminated and start to kill them. There are numerous Rescue groups standing by, just waiting for permission to enter the city and begin evacuations of pet animals.

DH and I donated to the Humane Society. I feel horrible for the people, but animals seem so helpless.

The North Shore Animal League is working to get some of those animals out of there; some are already up for adoption on Long Island.

OMG! You had to see on Oprah, this one guy they were ready to rescue and put on a helicopter but they wouldn't let him take his dog. He REFUSED to leave his dog, and was holding his doggie and crying and stuff. Finally another guy was like 'I'll take your dog and take care of him and make sure you get him back.' The dog owner broke down in this guys arms in gratitude. And I broke down right along with him.

I wasn't that concerned about the animals until I read what you wrote- they are helpless

I am not an animal lover- I have never had a pet- but I feel bad for all of the animals left behind

I donated to Noah's Wish, they are working down there right now..

Noah's Wish

Everytime I see an abandoned animal on a rood or trying to swim through that dirty water i cry.. it's so heartbreaking.. as stupid as it may sound to some, I wouldn't leave either if I couldn't take my pets.

Edit post: you can donate to them through paypal, their website is having issues

also did anyone see the vet that stayed with all the animals on Oprah yesterday?? they were finally rescued by Matt McConnehey (sp?) and some resuce workers the vet promised the owners he would stay with the animals until they could all be evacuated, they showed the reunions at the shelter with the owners, the cutest thing I ever saw was all the dogs sitting on the seats of the buses, like they were going to school.. the fact that they were so calm was amazing!!!!

I saw this on the news, and it was so sad, tears were coming to my eyes.. the poor helpless animals, they had no choice.. and to think they are probably drinking that awful contaminated water..

I gave to the aspca. Please make sure that the site is secure. I don't think that the nsal site is a secure one.

Also, if you can donate paper towels, old towels and blankets to these shelters(animal haven in flushing, queens) def needs them.
they will be taking in katrina animals too.
