Announcing my engagement w/o a ring

I have everything planned for my announcement.....except the ring. What will people think when we announce it and they ask to see the ring and I dont have one? Do I have to go into a whole story of how he wont have enough money by the end of the year? I dont want to embarrass my FH......

We almost skipped the ring altogether because I didn't think it was necessary, but I was worried that people wouldn't think we were really going through with it. So I can kind of understand.

In the end we got one b/c he really wanted me to have one.

You really shouldn't have to worry about what the family thinks/says, and should be able to tell the truth or just say. ' because I just don't' but I understand how sometimes you just want them to stay out of it & a little white lie is neccesary, like, its being sized ( smaller, if they ask ) or flown in from Africa!

i Was in the exact situation..we got engaged the beginning of june and i did not receive my ring until august. The reason being i wanted a small ceremony with just immediate family, he wanted to do it right..

But i when we announced it, everyone automatically very rudly goes right for the hand. I would just reply we need not need a material thing to symbolize our devotion for each other and our desire to be married.

He was more uncomfortable with me not having a ring than i was..i really did not care..

Just don't let people's rudeness get to you! You're in love and that's all you need!!

I didn't care what everyone thought..i actually received many compliments on how different it was that i didn't want a diamond to flaunt..

I think that's the route, Im going to go down. Had it not been for all the presents we've had to buy, I probably would have the ring all ready. Anyway, Im just going to say we are going to wait for the holidays to pass and when I get the chance (I work 7 days a week), we'll go get something we both like!! I wish I could have all of you as my family then my crabby patty mom!!

I don't think you have to say anything.. I didn't have my ring for a week or so, right around the time that we were announcing it.. My FH gave me his Grandmothers ring, but we had to get the diamond set in another ring, and when I told people, I said it was at the jeweler.. WHO CARES!!! IT's the point that your ENGAGED, not the ring. LOL.. don't worry.. they'll just be excited for you

My brother and sister-in-law have been married for nine years and she still doesn't have a ring! They just announced it, we didn't see a ring and we didn't ask. If people get nosy, just tell them you're still shopping for one that you both think is perfect.

Just say we dont have one yet! Your just as engaged as if you did. If it makes you feel better get a fakie and tell people its just the temp. but really I would just say we didnt get it yet and leave it at that! CONGRATS!!

we had the same situation -
my ring although ordered didnt arrive till nearly 6 weeks after we were engagaed - but i told everyone anyways and when they asked i told them it was a special order and was on its way
