Annoyed and need advice

Original post by TeemHenn

My wedding was last month and I have to tell you that I am shocked by the number of people who did not give us a gift or even a card! I know times are tight for a lot of folks but really you can't even write me a nice card!?!

One in particular that is annoying me is my co-worker who I invited, called me and begged if she could please bring her boyfriend (who I had no clue even existed!)

Is there any proper way of approaching this or is it a lost cause?

I am truly shocked that so many didn't give that I am beginning to wonder if they just got lost? I have no idea...

I dont think that you came out sounding greedy at all! i completely understand with what you're saying. you didnt expect a gift or money but at least a sentimental card. i'm glad ur wedding was beautiful and it's ok to vent bc that would be something that would bother me too!

SAME EXACT BOAT. DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED. AND WE PAID FOR EVERY PENNY OF OUR WEDDING OURSELVES AND PEOPLE KNEW THIS. Makes me sick.

This is an awkward situation. Its nice to receive a gift because lets face it weddings are expensive. Even if the people couldn't afford a lot its the thought that counts. On one hand maybe mentioning it will be a good thing because how bout if she did give and it was lost in the mix? I find it strange that she would talk about your wedding and how great it was and not give a gift?

Maybe the cards really got lost!!! It makes me cringe just thinking about it, but maybe you could ask her and the others in an email saying that many cards were missing, when people said they put them in your card box or bag or whatever and to please check or cancel the checks and re-issue. uggh so awkward.

I would totally say something!! That's just rude and wrong unless they have a hardship and say something to you, there is no excuse. Sorry ur dealing with this, I'd be upset too.

I would ask the people. I mistakenly gave one of my friends their invitation back instead of their gift!
& at my brothers wedding a number of cards got misplaced. We thought one of the aunts was stiffing him until she called asking why her didn't cash her check yet. It might be uncomfy but I would say something!

You have every right to feel disappointment! Even if someone can't afford a gift, a heart felt card or small thoughtful gift is the least someone can give!!! Personally, I could neverrrr show to a wedding without an appropriate gift. I'm kind of torn whether its appropriate to say something...I think I might possibly say something to guests that my family and I have been generous with in the past... but like other girls said, you don't want to come acros in poor taste like them...ahhh good luck this is tricky!! I have a feeling ill be going through the same thing...

You definitely didn't come across as greedy. It's an awkward situation, especially in these times. I just wouldn't show up to a wedding empty handed especially after I begged to be invited (which I wouldn't do either)

Thats awful!!!! I've forgotten the card and check many times before but have been sure to get it out right away in the mail! They've had over a month to get them to you! Could you maybe approach it as 'some of our cards went missing, just wanted to make sure one wasn't yours...' Like check to see if they have to cancel a check, ect?

If you dont say anything maybe you should hint at it when and if you send them a thank you card.....Something like, 'Thank You for coming to the wedding' with no mention of a gift, who knows if they would catch on though
