I have this one friend who always says really negative things when I talk about my wedding!
When I told her I got engaged: 'Oh man, now I have to get you a gift!' (she never gave me one anyway)
When I told her we set a date: 'You are lucky I am not planning on going on vacation that weekend'
When I told her I was so glad time was passing so quickly because I'm excited for the wedding: 'Yea well before you know it the whole thing will all be over'
I kinda wish I didn't put her on my shower OR wedding guest list!
Thanks everyone for the replies! But here's the thing- my shower is soon ad my wedding invites are already out. She was on both lists! How do I stop her from saying something hurtful on either one of those days!?!?! FH says it will be easy to avoid her on the wedding day w/ so many people around and so much else going on- but my shower will only have like 25 people. Can I just tell her to please sit at another end of the restaurant? Ughhh I seriously don't want her there but there's nothing I can do at this point!
Updated again- Thank you everyone for all your input and advice!! I honestly don't care if I remain friends with her afterwards so if she does happen to slip in one of her famous lines, I'm going to simply say, 'Do you think that's a sensitive thing to say to me' or something like that... and see what she says. She is going to be a preschool teacher!! Sensitivity should be her middle name!!

Re: annoyed
Some people are just naturally sarcastic and don't see how it might annoy someone.
Don't let her comments get to you.

Re: annoyed
Sounds like she is just a bitter jealous person. If I were you I would just limit what you say wedding wise around her. It's just not worth it to get upset. Unfortunately there are always people who have to be a downer

Re: annoyed
some people don't even think about the things they say or are about to say. So annoying when it comes to things about our weddings! People know how it is so important to the bride.

Re: annoyed
one word: jealousy. I would dump her a$$. I've done it before; I can't deal with people like that.
but in the meantime - I agree just don't talk about your wedding with her. I have a friend who keeps talking about how she is getting married (first it was this year, now it's next year), she's looking at rings, etc., every time i bring up the wedding. um, she's not even DATING anyone. I just started calling her crazy b/c i really think she's only half joking. so now i try not to talk about it unless she asks.

Re: annoyed
Some people just can't ever be happy for others. I know how that is, because I have a cousin like that. It ***** because it puts you down, but you have to try and ignore it!

Re: annoyed
Unfortunately with weddings you find out who your true friends are. Sounds like this is someone you dont need in your life.

Re: annoyed
Nothing any of us say can take the sting away. All of the things she said were just cold.
I have considered strategically giving some of our guests a lump of coal as a favor to signify they have been naughty.
I realize this won't solve anything, but man I would laugh!

Ick. I don't know why some people insist on acting/saying the things the do. How would they feel if the roles were reversed. They wouldn't want to hear those responses AT ALL.

Re: annoyed
I have a friend like this too. She is supposed to be my best friend, but whenever I tell her anything exciting she shows no emotion.
I called her to tell her I was engaged- she said- 'nice'
I called her and said- Good news-I set a date! Yay! She said- Good.
It's just jealousy. She has been with ehr boyfriend for a few years and he has yet to propose or anything and she hates it. They recently broke up.

Is it too late to remove her from your shower guestlist? After all, you wouldn't want her to have to get you a gift...

Re: annoyed (updated)
so sorry to hear your friend is being like this! Maybe it's sarcasm..but even still why be scarcastic in that situation? It doesn't call for it. She is just being plain rude. As to the shower you will be busy a good portion of the time saying hi to everyone and opening gifts. Obviously it would be rude not to recognize her being there but maybe just be really brief. When you see her say something like...Hi I'm so glad you could make it and then just turn and talk to someone else. A little bit cold? Yes, but hey she brought it on herself. Good luck and hopefully she stops with these obnoxious comments.
