Another attempt at finding the Hall of my dreams

Another attempt at finding the Hall of my dreams

Went to look at a few more reception halls today. This is starting to get frustrated. I feel so limited by my 50-60 person guest list but that is all the people we really know. I don't want to invite strangers off the street just to make a minimum. I went to look at The Inn at Great Neck, Milleridge Inn & Carriage House, North Ritz Club, and Huntington Townhouse.

Inn at Great Neck
Not for us at all. No outdoor area for photos or ceremony. No outdoor area period. On a busy street with no pull in for parking. I had trouble finding a spot. Pretty much a nothing is included in price place.

Milleridge Inn & Carriage House
I didn't like the Inn itself for my wedding. You have to walk through the restaurant to get to the rooms. The decor was not my style, looked dated and worn. No nice place for a ceremony. I'm not sure where I would be able to take my pics. Did not spot too many nice photo ops. Then I went to look at the Carriage house and thought it was really nice. The prices are fantastic, ~$55pp on a Sunday afternoon in September. I think only $80pp on a Saturday night. I liked that it was private you have the whole carriage house building and area for your party. In front they set up a tent outside where you can have a small cocktail hour, weather permitting. Also that's where I would do my ceremony. I didn't like that the tent poles run down the middle of the tent and my walk down the aisle will be pushed to one side and the tent poles might get in the way of people seeing me or of photos. We'll keep this one in mind as our lower cost option.

North Ritz Club
Noticed it while driving by and decided to stop and check it out. 100 minimum. I left as soon as I walked in, LOL. Scratch that.

Huntington Townhouse
Another wasted effort. I believe I noticed on a website or something that they would do parties of 50 people but I must have been wrong. I sat down with Steven and told him we plan to only have about 50-60 guests and he said 100 minimum. ARGGGHHHH!!! This is when I quit my search for the day.

I'm going to keep looking but nothing has really jumped out at me the way Westbury Manor did. It's perfect for us. Beautiful grounds for photos, 50 person minimum for Hill room, Pretty outdoor ceremony site, and a million other little things. I'm just trying to find something comparable but a little cheaper I guess.

Are you trying to stay out west, cause I went to a smaller wedding at the meadowclub that was gorgeous!

Keep calling around and looking...maybe call before going so you don't have to drive place to place to find out you can't reach their minimum?

I am trying to stay out west. I live in Queens and alot of our guests will be coming from the Bronx. The thing is that I did call these places but I guess the people that answer the phone have no idea what they are talking about, except the North Ritz Club because I just showed up there. Someone else recommended The Meadow Club to me too. I guess I'll take a drive out to check it out. If it's awesome then my guests will just have to drive a little further, lol.

Re: Another attempt at finding the Hall of my dreams

im just as frustrated..i have been to:

windows on the lake--looked very old, did not like the floor plan at all, very small

majestic gardens--very pretty but went to food tasting and didnt liek food and neither did the 6 other ppl we brought with us

chateau la mer--fh doesnt really like the lobby, we are still debating whether to have outdoor ceremony and we didnt like that there is a parking lot that u can see when u are sitting for the ceremony

thatched cottage--not my style, seemed old looking

larkfield manor--nice and still debating

riviera--rustic feel, lobby is old looking, nice outdoor area

vyc--really liked and going to bring fh back in 2 weeks

so we are going to guarantee 100 ppl-- i would like the max 2 weddings at a time, a nice big reception room(some of them for the size of my party were small and compact)...so on my list now is north ritz, leonards, east wind, watermill, westbury manor, fox hollow, marina del ray....i cant take this anymore i want to find a place

Re: Another attempt at finding the Hall of my dreams

I completely agree with you. I have even more time now that I pushed my wedding back to 2009 but I started looking at halls already when I thought I was getting married in 2008 and now I'm determined. I can't just throw everything on the back burnner for another year. I just want to pick a hall then everything else can wait until due time.
I've looked at:

Westbury Manor -Loved
Bridgeview Yacht Club
Coral House
Leonard's - okay
George Washington Manor
Verdi's of Westbury
Milleridge Inn & Carriage House - okay
Inn at Great Neck
Swan Club - Liked
Caffe on the Green - Loved but can't afford
Reception House

Oh and another...have you called or checked out Larkfield Manor? That was my second choice, I loved it there. I wasn't sure if I had FM'ed you any info on that.

oops...just edited cause I see you already looked at GW Manor. But, another option although I don't know if 100 is their min. is Sans Souci also near Roslyn.

Re: Another attempt at finding the Hall of my dreams

Nope Sans Souci is not a Jewish hall. I think the owner was French. If I can remember correctly the price is around the price your looking for.
