Another Catholic Church Question

Another Catholic Church Question

Ok, I know several people have posted about having to look around for a Catholic Church that will take non-parishoners.

my questions is, once you find one, has anyone had trouble getting a letter from their home parish to marry elsewhere?

I think that is going to be my problem. They gave me quite the runaround when I was trying to get the form that says I am qualified to be a confirmation sponser. and my fiance doesn't really belong to a church on his own.

Has anyone found a Catholic Church that doesn't require a letter?

I am going to try my old church, St. Martin of Tours in Bethpage, first.

We are going to book the Milleridge as soon as I get this figured out, so I would like to try & keep the Church somewhere around there ( Jerricho) or my parents house (Bethpage).

Re: Another Catholic Church Question

St. James were my brother and I attended Grade School and made all of our sacraments wouldn't marry my husband and I, because he was Active Duty. They told us we couldn't set a date until they saw him. lol, like I would be making it up.
We even had a letter from my Dh's commander but they could careless. Dh was in Colorado so there was no way he could stop by. So, I don't recomend going there.
I do recommend St. Kilian's! They were awesome to us. Our priest is no longer there but he is now at St. Bernards in levittown (I recommend going there as well and asking for him)

So, St. Kilians or St. Bernards. Naturally St. Kilians is prettier and has an amazing organ!
Keep me posted with how it works out. Also, why not register with the church when you set a date.

I grew up in Bethpage as well!

Re: Another Catholic Church Question

Thanks so much.
I am technically a member of my local Church in Westchester., but I haven't gone in anout a year and a half.
I am wondering if they are going to check the tithing envelopes & know I don't go.

We are getting married on LI, but not moving there, so I can't register there.

My grandfather used to go to St. Bernard's
(my dad grew up in Levittown.)

Did you need letters at St. Killians?

Re: Another Catholic Church Question

OK, so I called my old church & they are booked!
They didn't give me a problem about having moved to a new parish, but htey only have 11 or 12 30 's left in October.
my reception hall isn't booked, but my church is!I guess I coudl do it in the afternoon, but I'll have to check the milleridge info for the times again.

I called St. Killian's & they don't take outsiders.

Re: Another Catholic Church Question

The entire church thing is rather stressful. My family belongs to Infant Jesus but i just moved back to long island and I was going to join another parish. I am currently looking at St James or St Phillips and James.
