I went to Sayville Post Office, told Marge that I needed them hand cancelled. She said 'Oh what a good girl coming so early!' Then she took the box. I asked her if I needed to do anything else and she said 'Just go and have a great day! I will take care of these for you!'

You DO NOT sound stupid.... I never even heard of hand cancelling before LIW! LOL
Basically it doesn't go through one of the machines... it is meant to spare the envelopes a little of the normal wear and tear. Don't know how much help it is... they still have to go through sorting machines - but it was sickeningly easy... so why not?

congrats! I can see Sayville Post Office from my bedroom window, but I usually go to West Sayville b/c Sayville is crazy busy every time I go there! And you might've even seen me today, b/c I took a nice stroll to starbucks!
